Pro Football Focus writer Zoltan Buday referred to Wisconsin S Tanner McEvoy as "one of the most intriguing players in this year's safety class."
McEvoy remains something of a project at safety, as he also played quarterback and receiver during his time with the Badgers. On the more raw side of the equation, Buday pointed to his tackling or lackthereof. Last season, the 6-foot-6, 222-pounder graded out as the 91st safety in PFF tackling efficiency metrics. 91 out of 96. Not everything is darkness, though. Buday sees McEvoy's coverage ability as a sparkling positive attribute. He failed to allow a touchdown on his coverage plays last season. "If a team has the patience to develop McEvoy, they can get a solid free safety for 2017 and beyond by spending a Day-3 pick on the former Badger," Buday concluded. Sat, Apr 16, 2016 02:41:00 PM

NBC's College Football Talk reports that redshirt junior QB Tanner McEvoy will go both ways for the Badgers in their bowl game.

McEvoy practiced at quarterback last summer before being moved to safety and even started three games there. The redshirt junior made the switch back to quarterback and started five games under center to start the year. The Wisconsin prospect started practicing with the defense again on Tuesday. The Badgers are currently working him in with the first-team defense at both safety and linebacker.

While speaking with the media, redshirt junior RB Melvin Gordon III revealed Tanner McEvoy will be the school's starting QB.

Nothing is official, but this backs up a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel report from Sunday that cited three sources and stated the same thing. McEvoy practiced at quarterback last summer before being moved to safety and even started three games there. The redshirt junior made the switch back to quarterback this spring. As always, expect the Badgers to rely on Gordon III and Corey Clement at running back to keep the offense moving.

Wisconsin HC Gary Andersen called redshirt junior QBs Tanner McEvoy and Joel Stave options "A and A" heading into the summer.

Freshman D.J. Gillins will be third on the depth chart. Stave started all 13 games last season, and McEvoy actually moved from quarterback, to wide receiver, to defensive back. Stave, because of his recent experience at the position, seems to be the odds on favorite to start.

Wisconsin redshirt sophomore QB Tanner McEvoy has started working at WR.

McEvoy had been working behind Joel Stave and Curt Phillips at quarterback, and the team is in need of receiver depth. The South Carolina transfer has plenty of size to him, at 6'6/209 pounds, but we couldn't find a history of McEvoy playing an offensive position besides quarterback.

South Carolina announced that freshman QB Tanner McEvoy has left the team and will transfer.

McEvoy was just reinstated to the team by Steve Spurrier after the head coach considered his speeding and driving after consuming alcohol charges somewhat trivial because North and South Carolina laws are different in that situation. When asked about the possible transfer, McEvoy said "I'm sorry, I can't comment on that right now."

South Carolina backup freshman QB Tanner McEvoy has been reinstated to the team, head coach Steve Spurrier announced.

McEvoy was arrested in North Carolina a few weeks ago and charged with speeding and driving after consuming alcohol. From Spuurier, "I think South Carolina doesn’t have that law. North Carolina has that law (about underage people not being allowed to drink any alcohol at all before driving). He got arrested for it, and he’ll pay his fine. I’m not going to suspend him for that, all right? But I don’t know if he’s going to play anyway."

South Carolina redshirt freshman QB Tanner McEvoy was arrested in North Carolina and charged with speeding and driving after consuming alcohol.

The last charge is important because McEvoy is under the age of 21, although the charge is only a misdemeanor. The freshman is currently suspended from the program, per team policy.
