Iowa senior C James Ferentz measured in at 6-foot-0 7/8 inches and 289 pounds during weigh ins for the East-West Shrine Game.
This is a very good weight for Ferentz, if he can keep it on. The future zone blocking guard has struggled with snaps during the week of practice, which is surprising considering he spent his entire college career working with a quarterback from center. The biggest question scouts will have to answer regarding Ferentz is if the Hawkeye can handle one or zero technique nose tackles off the snap. Tue, Jan 15, 2013 09:38:00 PM

Iowa senior C James Ferentz will attend the East-West Shrine Game.

Ferentz is one of our favorite third day offensive linemen, specifically for a team that frequently uses zone blocking. He is leaner than most, but Ferentz is tenacious and always accomplishes his responsibility due to active hands and body placement. The coaches son may struggle in individual drills but in team outings he could shine.

Iowa beat writer Pat Harty believes that Iowa senior C James Ferentz is the program's MVP for the 2012 season.

Harty goes on to list many of the things we love about Ferentz: a nasty blocking style, his ability to take on defensive linemen much larger, and consistently completing his responsibility with solid technique. The coach's son will be a solid third day pick for a team that heavily uses zone blocking, but many will worry about his size.
