Michigan junior LB Jake Ryan will dress for the first time this season against Penn State on Saturday.
Ryan, Michigan's top front seven player, has missed time since tearing his ACL last March. The goal has always been to return in October, and Ryan looks like he will meet that target date. Head coach Brady Hoke did not confirm that Ryan will play, but he will at least suit up. Sat, Oct 12, 2013 09:50:00 AM

Michigan junior LB Jake Ryan could return against Penn State, according to head coach Brady Hoke.

Ryan was recently cleared by doctors and is getting closer to playing. "We'll have a good practice with him tomorrow. We'll just see," Hoke said. Ryan, who is one of Michigan's top defenders, has been sidelined since March after suffering a torn ACL. October has been the target date all along.

Michigan junior LB Jake Ryan is already running and participating in team walk-throughs.

Head coach Brady Hoke previously said he expected Ryan to be on the field in October after the team's top linebacker suffered a torn ACL last March. As of now, that timeline appears to be in reach. "Jake Ryan has really gotten stronger," defensive coordinator Greg Mattison added.

Michigan head coach Brady Hoke believes top junior LB Jake Ryan will return to the field in October.

"His worth ethic in his rehab has all been real positive," Hoke said. "I haven't had a chance to watch him do anything, but I think he's still ahead of schedule. I think in October he'll be (ready)." Ryan suffered a torn ACL last March and his absence will be a major blow to the Wolverines' defense. We still wonder if Ryan will attempt to play this season or sit out all of 2013.

Michigan sophomore LB Jake Ryan suffered a torn ACL on Tuesday and is out indefinitely.

Ryan was the school's leading tackler in 2012 after seeing snaps at linebacker and weak side defensive end. It is a major blow for the Wolverines, and we wonder if Ryan will attempt to play this season or sit out all of 2013.

Due to the lack of depth at the position, Michigan sophomore LB Jake Ryan will likely see snaps at weak-side DE.

Ryan has a limited amount of experience at the position after lining up there in sub-packages last season. Currently, Ryan is ticketed for the starting strong-side linebacker role, but defensive coordinators main objective is to get the best 11 players on the field at once. The sophomore finished last season with 37 tackles, including 11 for loss. Senior Craig Roh played the weak-side spot last season, but moved to the strong-side during the offseason.
