Michigan State senior WR Bennie Fowler won't seek a sixth season of eligibility and has signed with an agent.

Fowler explored the idea of applying for another year of eligibility, but he didn't think he'd win the appeal. Fowler played only five games in 2011 due to a foot injury, raising the possibility. The former Spartan has signed with Jovan Barnes of Relativity Sports.

Michigan State senior WR Bennie Fowler might be eligible for a sixth season of eligibility.

Fowler and head coach mike Dantonio have not discussed the possibility, however. The senior was very limited in 2010 and 2011, but we aren't sure if he wants to return to a struggling passing offense.

Despite previously stating that he was comfortable giving younger players a chance at the WR position, Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio continues to play his "veterans."

The three veterans of the group are junior Bennie Fowler and sophomores Keith Mumphery and Tony Lippett. On the flip side, two freshmen did not see a single snap and another sophomore only had a brief cameo. Fowler has 16 receptions for 200 yards, along with one touchdown, on the season, but the Spartans passing attack will seemingly continue to struggle.

Michigan State junior WR Bennie Fowler said he is not surprised by the struggles of the receiver group this season.

"No doubt. That's how young we are," Fowler said. "But we still have the ability to make plays." The junior is easily the most veteran member of the Spartans receiving group. Head coach Mike Dantonio has even considered using senior cornerback Johnny Adams at receiver, something they experimented with in the spring. "There's been a little bit of thought to that," he said. "But we'll see."

Michigan State junior WR Bennie Fowler emerged among a questionable receiving corps to register eight catches for 99 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's win over Central Michigan.

The receiving group has been the biggest question during camp after the Spartans lost their top two receivers from a year ago to the NFL. Fowler underwent offseason foot surgery but he appears to firmly be planted in the starting lineup.

Michigan State junior Bennie Fowler has fully healed from offseason foot surgery and has claimed the Spartans' top receiver spot with a strong camp.

Fowler only returned in June after missing time after pins were inserted into his broken left foot. "He's made every practice. He's had a great (fall) camp. He's made a lot of catches in camp and big plays. Great run after catch and he's confident right now," head coach Mark Dantonio said. Despite only posting 16 career catches, Fowler will start opposite sophomore Tony Lippett versus Boise State in the opener.

Michigan State junior WR Bennie Fowler claims he is fully recovered from offseason surgery that included pins being put in his broken left foot.

"I'm not thinking about the foot at all right now," Fowler said this week. "I'm 100 percent." Despite only posting 16 career catches, no receiver has been raved about more this offseason, according to beat writer Graham Couch. Fowler and departed receiver B.J. Cunningham were very close during their time together at the school, and the Spartans are still waiting on someone to fill out the starting receiver role, with Fowler being one of the more veteran players at the position.
