Michigan State senior LB Jairus Jones will miss the next six weeks due to a knee injury.
The converted defensive back injured his MCL. "Jairus has been playing very, very well and has done an outstanding job for us," head coach Mike Dantonio announced. Jones' conversion from safety to weakside linebacker has been a smooth one, and he could get a look as a hybrid player in the NFL. Mon, Sep 23, 2013 09:14:00 AM

Despite being less than two years removed from Achilles tendon surgery, Michigan State junior Jairus Jones has claimed the starting FS position.

Jones actually returned last year, only 11 months after surgery, but did not feel fully healed until spring workouts. The junior is expected to replace Trenton Robinson, who graduated to the NFL, but Jones had to work for the starting gig and saw his first time at free safety during summer practices. He isn't the fastest at the position, admitting he ran around a 4.6 forty prior to the injury, but Jones offers a large frame and a strong work ethic.
