Cardinals selected North Carolina DE Kareem Martin with the No. 84 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
Martin (6-foot-5 7/8, 272) was a three-year starter for the Heels, registering 44 tackles for loss with 19 sacks and four forced fumbles. He was a first-team All-ACC selection as a senior. Blessed with impressive length (35-inch arms), Martin made waves at the Combine with a 4.72 forty, 35 1/2-inch vertical and highly explosive 10-foot-9 broad jump. Productive, smart (31 Wonderlic) and athletic with an ideal build, Martin needs to get stronger and polish his technique, but offers a Justin Tuck-ish ceiling as a versatile and imposing inside-out lineman. He's a nice addition for a front seven that was a strength last season. May 9 - 10:34 PM

NFL.com's Gil Brandt believes UNC DE Kareem Martin's strong pro day "elevated him to a middle- to top-of-the-second-round selection."

Martin (6-foot-5 3/4, 270 pounds) stood on his combine numbers, which were amongst the best of his position, as he ran a 4.72 forty and posted a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump. He "looked really good in the drills working out as a defensive end," observed Brandt. NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock is a known fan of Martin's.

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock is impressed with UNC DE Kareem Martin.

"He can get skinny," Mayock said. "He can get through small areas and make plays." Martin (6-foot-6, 272 pounds) has been one of the stars of the combine, running a 4.72 forty and posting a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump. Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage tweeted that Martin's performance in Indy would "send evaluators back to the tapes."

Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage suggests that evaluators will have to determine UNC senior DE Kareem Martin's upside after a strong performance at the Combine.

"UNC's Kareem Martin will send evaluators back to the tapes...he ran 4.72 and jumped 35.5" and 10-4'. Teams have to determine his upside," Savage tweeted. Martin had a strong showing at the Combine and built on the momentum he gained at the Senior Bowl. Prior to the Combine, Martin had a third round projection and it will be interesting to see if teams reach for him in the back end of the second round after Monday's performance.

UNC senior DE Kareem Martin totaled 3.5 tackles for loss, including three sacks, in the school's win over Pitt.

Martin is up to 16 tackles for loss on the season, including nine sacks. Our own Josh Norris noted Martin had an identity crisis this summer, playing like a speed rusher in a power end's body. It seems he has shaped his game to win on first contact. Martin could continue his positive season with a good Senior Bowl performance.

UNC senior DE Kareem Martin has set a goal of 10 sacks for the 2013 season.

"I left about nine sacks on the field," Martin said after reviewing film of the 2012 season. "Ten is a very attainable number." The senior has eight career sacks. Martin made his way into the backfield fairly frequently, but his lack of short area quickness and change of direction ability prevented him from finishing plays. Martin also noted he has been working on his get off this offseason.

Scouts Inc.'s Kevin Weidl likes UNC junior DE Kareem Martin's upside but warns that the prospect is still raw.

Weidl says Martin's upside lies with his frame and athleticism, but in order to reach it the junior must continue to add bulk and get stronger at the point of attack. Martin beat out pre-2011 favorite Donte Paige-Moss for the starting spot opposite Quinton Coples last season, but faded towards the end of the year. Still, the Tarheel hopes to build off of his seven tackles for loss, four sack sophomore campaign.
