NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that Texas senior DT Chris Whaley had a visit with the Cowboys on Tuesday and Wednesday, and had dinner with the Cowboys staff.
Whaley is easily comparable to newly signed Cowboys' DT Henry Melton, who also was a former Texas running back who made the switch to defensive tackle. With Whaley's athleticism and quick feet, look for him to be an upfield gap penetrator at the next level. Whaley has some upside as a possible third day selection, but he's coming back from a torn ACL which ended his senior season last year. The former Longhorn's captain could be a nice developmental project for the Cowboys, if they plan to take a chance on him. Apr 16 - 10:50 PM

Whaley suffered the injury in the first quarter against West Virginia, but no further details were given. He was carted off, however. The former running back has had a breakout season and will surely get a look in the NFL.

Texas senior DT Chris Whaley suffered a left knee injury in the first quarter of Saturday's game against West Virginia.

Whaley was carted off and obviously will not return to the game. Whaley, who converted from running back prior to last season, is a high character player who is a fan favorite in Austin.

Former RB Chris Whaley will start at DT for Texas' season opener.

Whaley, a junior, will play the three technique defensive tackle next to massive junior Brandon Moore. This position switch is very similar to the one Henry Melton made during his time as a Longhorn, but the transition seemed to have clicked better after he had left Austin. Whaley made the conversion prior to last season, but if he can get upfield and disrupt he should have a productive year with senior Alex Okafor and junior Jackson Jeffcoat on the edge.
