49ers selected Alabama DE Quinton Dial with the No. 157 overall pick.
Dial visited the 49ers during the pre-draft process. He will most likely play the five technique end spot in the 49ers three man front. There's nothing flashy about Dial's game, but he flashes an anchor and was a consistent player at Alabama. Dial only registered eight tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Sat, Apr 27, 2013 03:09:00 PM

Alabama DL Quinton Dial is visiting the 49ers on Thursday.

Dial is also reportedly drawing interest from the Ravens. The Alabama product has experience in a variety of fronts, but he never stood out in any of them. We wouldn't expect anything more than a later third day selection. The visits could be medical related, since Dial underwent toe surgery in after the season.

Alabama DE Quinton Dial recently underwent toe surgery, according to draft insider Tony Pauline.

Dial is expected to be out a few months and he will only participate in medical exams at the Combine. The Bama product played defensive end in a three man front during his time in college and likely projects into a similar role in the NFL.

Alabama DE Quinton Dial and LB Alex Watkins were mentioned in an SI story regarding the use of banned substances.

Christopher Key of S.W.A.T.S. introduced the two to antler spray and "negatively charged" water, among other products, prior to the BCS National Championship game. The Alabama coaching staff was apparently unaware of the two's treatment. Key is also said to have given a treatment to an LSU player before the 2010 Senior Bowl.

Alabama senior DE Quinton Dial will not be suspended for the BCS National Championship for his hit on Georgia QB Aaron Murray.

"After review, all subsequent action will be handled internally by the two institutions and [SEC] is satisfied with their actions," the SEC announced. Dial was not flagged on the play but did hit Murray helmet-to-helmet during an interception return.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban said that even though senior DE Quinton Dial may not start games, he will certainly earn a starter's number of snaps.

Dial has been rotating with junior Ed Stinson along side nose tackle Jesse Williams and end Damion Square. The Crimson Tide plan to rotate six players along their three-man front, including sophomores Jeoffrey Pagan and Brandon Ivory. In a supporting role, Dial racked up three tackles for loss including one sack and one quarterback hurry.
