Former Ohio State DE Nathan Williams is working with the linebackers during this week's East-West Shrine Game practices.
Williams played a lot of linebacker as a senior and at 6-foot-3, 249 projects best there in the pros. The fifth-year senior managed just two sacks and four tackles for loss in ten appearances this past season. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer attributed one touchdown pass that Purdue completed to starting senior DE Nathan Williams at OLB.

"When I say on fumes now, Nate Williams is playing outside backer, and he's not an outside backer," Meyer said. "We gave up a touchdown because of that -- playing guys out there, they're just going as hard as they possibly can." Along with Williams, fullback Zach Boren is starting at inside linebacker. The Buckeyes' linebacking group is a M.A.S.H. unit right now.

Ohio State senior DE Nathan Williams could end up playing week one against Miami (Ohio) after healing from micro-fracture surgery that repaired a knee injury that forced him to almost the entire 2011 season.

Head coach Uran Meyer is "hoping" Williams will be available in some capacity and that Monday's practice was a "big day" for the pass rusher. In three seasons, Williams has 11 career sacks and 26 tackles for loss. Along with senior end John Simon and junior defensive tackle Johnathan, the Buckeyes possess quite a talented defensive line.
