Georgia senior DE Abry Jones practiced with the team Thursday.
Jones was ruled out for the rest of the season in early November after undergoing surgery, presumably on his left ankle. The practice wasn't fully padded, but it is looking more and more like Jones will suit up for the team's bowl game. Thu, Dec 27, 2012 11:13:00 AM

Georgia senior DE Abry Jones ran at practice on Tuesday and hopes to be healthy enough to play in the school's bowl game.

Jones underwent ankle surgery in November and it appeared to end his final collegiate season. It would be a mild surprise if the Bulldog defensive end plays against Nebraska on January 1, but Jones likely wants to finish his senior year on a high note.

Georgia head coach Mark Richt announced that senior DE Abry Jones will officially miss the remainder of the season.

A firmer high school teammate said as much two weeks ago, but Georgia had been mum on the prognosis until Monday. This ends Jones' collegiate playing career, but he will get a shot at the NFL and may even be drafted on the third day in April. The biggest hurdle will now be his medicals.

A former teammate of Georgia DE Abry Jones tweeted that senior underwent surgery on Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season.

We suspect this has to do with Jones' left ankle issue that has recently sideline him. He re-injured the ankle against Kentucky and was held out for the rest of the game. If the report is true, the Bulldogs may use two nose tackles, John Jenkins and Kwame Geathers, in the lineup more often.

There is "a good chance" that Georgia senior DE Abry Jones will miss Saturday's game against Florida with a left ankle injury.

"Right now, I mean he's out, and we're gonna learn a little bit more (Monday) when he sees some doctors," head coach Mark Richt said. "But right this minute I would say there's a good chance he'll be out." Jones re-injured the ankle against Kentucky and was held out for the rest of the game. If he is out, the Bulldogs could go heavy by playing two nose tackles in John Jenkins and Kwame Geathers.

SI's Tony Pauline considers Georgia senior DT Abry Jones a sleeper prospect for the 2013 Draft.

In the Bulldogs base 3-4 scheme, Jones usually lines up as a defensive end next to big John Jenkins. Pauline goes as far to say that Jones "could be the most understated defensive lineman in the nation" and calls him the "complete package" and an "three-down defender." We think Jenkins' motor is not always apparent, but the Georgia defense offers a ton of talent that opposing offenses will have to focus on.
