Vikings selected UCLA OG Jeff Baca with the No. 196 overall pick.
Baca (6-foot-3 3/8, 302) made 45 starts for the Bruins, 25 at guard and 20 at tackle. His best pro position projects as left guard or center. Baca performed 28 bench reps at his Pro Day, after demonstrating impressive athleticism with a 5.03 forty and 1.68 ten-yard split at the Combine. His 7.43 three-cone drill was the best among offensive linemen in Indy. One medical flag on Baca was a 2012 concussion that cost him two games, although he's been fully cleared medically and scored a 34 on the Wonderlic. The Vikings need guard help. UCLA G Jeff Baca ran an unofficial 5.03 forty, with a 1.68 10 yard split.

The 10 yard split is more important than the straight-line forty, since it displays more explosion rather than long speed. Baca has a nasty streak to him and could earn a draftable grade.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler tweeted that UCLA senior G Jeff Baca is an "underrated prospect."

Brugler admits that Baca needs to stay healthy but he "has played better than several other 'draftable' guards." The Bruin suffered a "head injury" in late September, which usually means a concussion, and missed a handful of games because of it. After recently being a sore spot in UCLA's attack, the offensive line has played very well this season.

UCLA starting senior G Jeff Baca is expected to play this week against Colorado after returning from a "head injury."

Baca has missed the last two games due to the injury. After starting the first two games rushing for over 200 yards, senior back Johnathan Franklin has a total of 155 yards the last two weeks. It may not be a direct correlation to Baca's absence, but the Bruins did struggle up front against Oregon State.
