Cardinals selected LSU ILB Kevin Minter with the No. 45 overall pick.
It's a position of need for the Cardinals, who have Daryl Washington facing a four-game suspension and a massive hole next to him. Minter (6-0, 246) was a 24-game starter in the middle of John Chavis' defense, logging 18.5 career tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. He ran 4.81 at the Combine with a 1.67 ten-yard split and 25 reps on the bench. Minter is better at shedding blocks than Manti Te'o, and plays with more physicality than Alec Ogletree, although he projects as a potential coverage liability. Like Curtis Lofton, Minter may have to open his career as a two-down linebacker. Fri, Apr 26, 2013 07:34:00 PM

NFL.com's Bucky Brooks compared LSU ILB Kevin Minter to former San Diego Chargers LB Takeo Spikes.

"Kevin Minter and Takeo Spikes have similar games despite slight differences in body type... Both are rough and rugged defenders and have a knack of flowing to the ball. Minter, in particular, is a thumper in the middle, with a tremendous feel for warding off blocks and finding the ball," Brooks said. Minter is a potential fit for the Baltimore Ravens with the final selection in the first round.

LSU ILB Kevin Minter says he's comfortable in any scheme a team wants to play him in.

Minter noted that he hasn't played in a 3-4 defense since high school. He is one of the highest rated inside linebackers in this year's class because of his run prowess and instincts. He's not as athletic in coverage as one may like but could do well with the way defenses play coverage nowadays.

Draft czar Mike Mayock said some rank LSU ILB Kevin Minter ahead of Notre Dame's Manti Te'o.

"Most people have [Alec] Ogletree first. If he's an inside guy, Ogletree, followed by Te'o, followed by Minter. And some people have Minter ahead of Te'o," Mayock said. It's noteworthy that there's no mention of Kansas State linebacker Arthur Brown, who might be considered as a weakside linebacker by NFL personnel men.

LSU junior ILB Kevin Minter received a third-round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.

Minter revealed as much during a radio interview after news broke that he was expected to declare for April's Draft. These evaluations usually undersell prospects, so Minter can realistically expect a second-round grade, but we think he has a great shot to be a top-50 selection.

ESPN's Joe Schad reports that LSU junior ILB Kevin minter will declare for April's Draft.

We noted a report earlier that stated LSU coaches were "fighting hard" to keep Minter in college for one more season because of his leadership skills, but we don't blame Minter for jumping to the NFL. Along with his consistency in the middle, Minter lays the wood against the run and is capable in coverage.

LSU coaches are reportedly "fighting hard" to keep junior ILB Kevin Minter in school for one more season, according to SI's Tony Pauline.

Pauline notes that Minter is "a real leader, competitor, and well liked." It seems 50/50 right now on whether or not the junior will enter April's Draft, but we really like his consistency in the middle, especially as a thumping gap filler against the run. He was LSU's best defensive player this season.

LSU junior ILB Kevin Minter registered 19 total tackles against Clemson, two went for loss including one sack.

Minter was all over the field, taking running backs out of the backfield against the run or covering them in the flats when Clemson planned on throwing the ball. Tajh Boyd is a tough assignment at quarterback, but Minter did a solid job when asked to spy. We think he is one of the more underrated draft-eligible inside linebackers and could be the first player at the position selected in April.

LSU redshirt junior ILB Kevin Minter graduated last week and some close to the team believe his next move is declaring for the NFL.

Minter earned a degree in Sports Administration in just three and a half years while also picking up LSU's defensive MVP honor during the 2012 season. When asked about his next step Minter answered, "I can take care of mother and the people that have taken care of my all of my life. I just feel blessed to be in this situation. It's surreal. It's something you dream about." Despite the perceived higher profile prospects that surrounded him, Minter was the focal point of the LSU defense and would likely be a top two round pick if he declares.
