Eagles selected Florida DB Jaylen Watkins with the No. 101 pick in the NFL draft.
Watkins (5-foot-11, 194) is Sammy's younger brother. Jaylen started 28 games for the Gators, seeing action at corner and safety as well as in the slot. He recorded three career interceptions and four tackles for loss. Watkins ran 4.41 at the Combine and did 22 reps on the bench, showing plus weight-room strength, though he isn't a physical tackler. Watkins' speed and versatility are his calling cards, and he could eventually contribute as a nickel or dime defender while assisting on special teams. He doesn't have a starting cornerback's skill set. Sat, May 10, 2014 12:26:00 PM

The half brother of top-five ticketed WR Sammy Watkins ran a 4.41 40-yard dash at the combine. Jaylen Watkins, a probable mid-round draft pick, has experience at both CB and S. Watkins (6-foot-0, 182 pounds) projects better as a corner at the next level due to his wiry build.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler mentions Florida CB Jaylen Watkins as a possible target for the Saints.

New Orleans hosted five CBs at team headquarters on Tuesday, and they're clearing going to be gunning for reinforcements at the position in May. Brugler believes the club should check out Sammy's older brother: "After lining up at cornerback and safety in college, he offers the intriguing versatility that will be attractive to NFL teams, appearing comfortable in off man, press and zone coverage," the analyst wrote. "Watkins has light, controlled feet and does an excellent job in his pedal and hip flip to stay in the hip pocket of receivers down the field. His game needs some refinement, but the natural talent seems to shine through and would make an excellent draft choice in the third round."

While Florida DB Jaylen Watkins is a willing run defender, he isn't strong or powerful in support, according to ESPN's Kevin Weidl.

The three-year starter finished third on the Gators with 52 tackles this past season after he was asked to shift to safety. Watkins (6-foot-0, 182 pounds) is a versatile player who projects better as a corner at the next level due to his wiry build, which Weidl no doubt concluded upon closer inspection of his tackling ability.

Florida senior DB Jaylen Watkins has been named a starting safety over redshirt freshman Marcus Maye.

Maye and redshirt junior Cody Riggs began the season as starters, attempting to fill two craters formed when Matt Elam and Josh Evans moved on to the NFL. Maye was rated as one of the top safety prospects in the nation coming out of high school in 2012. Florida coach Will Muschamp replaces him with Watkins, who has made 19 career starts at cornerback. NFL scouts will no doubt appreciate what moving positions in his last collegiate season implies about Watkins' character. It won't hurt Watkins' draft stock to prove that he's proven adept at playing all defensive back positions, either.
