Bridgford cited head coach Todd Monken and offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo as reasons for choosing Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles had a very difficult season in 2012, but Bridgford will be able to play immediately in 2013.

Cal backup QB Allan Bridgford has notified team officials that he does intend on transferring from the program.

"Today I asked for my release from the CAL football team," Bridgford said via Twitter. "I plan on graduating this summer and transferring 2 another school 2 play football." That other school is unknown at the moment, but since Bridgford plans on graduating he will not have to sit out next season under NCAA rules.

Cal's backup QB Allan Bridgford has left the football team, "to decide if he wants to remain part of the program."

The junior was apparently told that his spring snaps would diminish compared to previous seasons. "He kind of got some news from us that he was going to get some reduced reps. Decided he's going to take a day or two to kind of assess things some things," head coach Sonny Dykes said.

Cal backup junior QB Allan Bridgford will "most likely" start Saturday against Oregon.

The normal starter, senior Zach Maynard, injured his knee in practice on Tuesday and it doesn't appear he'll be healthy to contribute on Saturday. In limited play, Bridgford has completed only 25 percent of his passes this season and will be without top target Keenan Allen.
