Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly announced that the hearings of five players suspended for violating the school's academic conduct policy will take place by the end of next week.
Last month, the Fighting Irish suspended WR DaVaris Daniels, CB KeiVarae Russell, DE Ishaq Williams, LB Kendall Moore and DB Eilar Hardy while investigating claims of academic fraud. The quintet will miss their fourth game of the season against Syracuse in MetLife Stadium on Saturday. "It’s a very complicated situation, obviously," Kelly told "There are a lot of pieces here. There are NCAA implications, certainly. We’re probably going down a path that [we've] never gone before, so there are things there." The school announced in its initial statement revealing the suspensions that it had received "evidence that students had submitted papers and homework that had been written for them by others." Notre Dame senior WR DaVaris Daniels insists he writes his own papers and likely maintained as much to university officials in an interview this week, reports's Jeremy Fowler.

The Irish's leading returning receiver (49 catches for 745 yards and seven touchdowns last season) was one of four players (CB KeiVarae Russell, DL Ishaq Williams and LB Kendall Moore were the others) suspended while the university completes an investigation into academic fraud. "He said he wrote all his papers," a source said of Daniels. "They asked him about some emails and papers that he wrote. He told them what he knew." The school says it is in possession of evidence that a handful of students submitted papers written for them by others. Davis, according to the source, was sensitive to academic issues after he was suspended for a poor GPA in the spring.

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly announced junior WR DaVaris Daniels will play against Michigan.

Despite previous rumors to the contrary, junior WR DaVaris Daniels is still enrolled at Notre Dame.

After recovering from a broken collarbone, Daniels caught 31 passes for 490 yards and no touchdowns in 2012. There's no reason to expect anything less of him in 2013, other than uncertainty at the quarterback position.

Notre Dame sophomore WR DaVaris Daniels has returned to practice after healing from a broken collarbone.

Daniels had been sidelined since November 11, but his return will be welcomed by Everett Golson. "He looks really good," Kelly said. "He's going to be able to be a key contributor for us." His larger frame may help Notre Dame's other tall target, Tyler Eifert, see more single coverage.
