Notre Dame redshirt junior WR DaVaris Daniels declared for the NFL Draft.
Daniels, who had one final year of eligibility remaining, showed up on Monday’s final list of players granted special eligibility for the draft, released three days after the underclassmen deadline. The 6-foot-2, 203-pounder was suspended this past season along with four teammates during the school's academic dishonesty investigation. "As far as talent, I think you can make an argument he’s got early-round talent," draft analyst Scott Wright of draftcountdown.com said, "but the question marks are going to push him down into day three." Daniels recorded 49 catches for 745 yards and seven scores in 2013. Jan 19 - 8:28 PM

Notre Dame senior WR DaVaris Daniels is still uncertain about his football future, whether it will continue in college or a possible jump to the NFL.

Daniels was part of the group that was suspended due to academic violations and was told he would miss the entire 2014 season. The receiver is draft-eligible and is strongly considering declaring for the draft. In fact, his father previously stated Daniels would not return to the Irish but backed off that statement. I’ve changed my mind at least six times so far, and it’s still going," Daniels said, adding he will decide in January.

Senior WR DaVaris Daniels' father tweeted his son is done playing for Notre Dame.

Daniels was one of the five Notre Dame players suspended during an investigation into academic fraud. The process has taken four months, and an announcement had been expected for weeks. The older Daniels says his son will "weigh his options for the future." The futures of CB KeiVarae Russell, DE Ishaq Williams, LB Kendall Moore and DB Eilar Hardy should be reported on soon.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the five players suspended from Notre Dame during an investigation into academic fraud are not likely to play this season.

The program has stayed relatively quiet about the investigation into WR DaVaris Daniels, CB KeiVarae Russell, DE Ishaq Williams, LB Kendall Moore and DB Eilar Hardy, though Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly had said he thought the cases would be resolved by the end of last week. The Tribune reported that its source for the story "corroborates what the website Irish Illustrated reported Wednesday, that the five are not likely to play this season."

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly announced Tuesday during his news conference that the school's rulings on five suspended players was "imminent."

Last month, the Fighting Irish suspended WR DaVaris Daniels, CB KeiVarae Russell, DE Ishaq Williams, LB Kendall Moore and DB Eilar Hardy while investigating claims of academic fraud. The school said it had evidence that students had turned in papers and homework that had been written for them by others. On July 29, it turned that evidence over to the compliance office on athletics. "I think the overriding thought for me is six weeks is a long time; there's no way that somebody's going to come back in and start on Saturday," Kelly said when asked what role the players would play if they were ruled eligible. "We'll see how it plays out. If in fact we do have a player back, we'll try to get them an opportunity to contribute, but it would have to be in a limited role."

Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly announced that the hearings of five players suspended for violating the school's academic conduct policy will take place by the end of next week.

Last month, the Fighting Irish suspended WR DaVaris Daniels, CB KeiVarae Russell, DE Ishaq Williams, LB Kendall Moore and DB Eilar Hardy while investigating claims of academic fraud. The quintet will miss their fourth game of the season against Syracuse in MetLife Stadium on Saturday. "It’s a very complicated situation, obviously," Kelly told ESPN.com. "There are a lot of pieces here. There are NCAA implications, certainly. We’re probably going down a path that [we've] never gone before, so there are things there." The school announced in its initial statement revealing the suspensions that it had received "evidence that students had submitted papers and homework that had been written for them by others."

Notre Dame senior WR DaVaris Daniels insists he writes his own papers and likely maintained as much to university officials in an interview this week, reports CBSSports.com's Jeremy Fowler.

The Irish's leading returning receiver (49 catches for 745 yards and seven touchdowns last season) was one of four players (CB KeiVarae Russell, DL Ishaq Williams and LB Kendall Moore were the others) suspended while the university completes an investigation into academic fraud. "He said he wrote all his papers," a source said of Daniels. "They asked him about some emails and papers that he wrote. He told them what he knew." The school says it is in possession of evidence that a handful of students submitted papers written for them by others. Davis, according to the source, was sensitive to academic issues after he was suspended for a poor GPA in the spring.

Despite previous rumors to the contrary, junior WR DaVaris Daniels is still enrolled at Notre Dame.

After recovering from a broken collarbone, Daniels caught 31 passes for 490 yards and no touchdowns in 2012. There's no reason to expect anything less of him in 2013, other than uncertainty at the quarterback position.

Notre Dame sophomore WR DaVaris Daniels has returned to practice after healing from a broken collarbone.

Daniels had been sidelined since November 11, but his return will be welcomed by Everett Golson. "He looks really good," Kelly said. "He's going to be able to be a key contributor for us." His larger frame may help Notre Dame's other tall target, Tyler Eifert, see more single coverage.
