Chargers selected Florida International DE Tourek Williams with the No. 179 overall pick.
Williams (6-2, 260) paced Florida International in tackles for loss (14.5) and sacks (6.5) as a senior. He's the best pass rusher to emerge from FIU since Antwan Barnes. Williams has explosiveness off the snap, but is often engulfed by blockers due to short arms (32 1/2"). He projects as a situational nickel end and special teamer for the Bolts. NFL.com's Gil Brandt says the feeling is that FIU's Tourek Williams fits better at DE than OLB.

Williams ran forties of 4.71 and 4.76 seconds at his pro day, and went through drills at both linebacker and defensive end. We like his closing speed, but Williams has tremendous difficulty using his upper body to create separation and shed.

Draft insider Tony Pauline suggests FIU DE Tourek Williams as a sleeper pass rushing linebacker.

Williams has apparently been practicing a lot of linebacker drills and hopes to run in the 4.7 range at the Combine. The GOlden Panthers has some real edge speed, but his lack of arm length could cause trouble when dealing with offensive linemen, since he tends to get caught in the grasp.

FIU DE Tourek Williams measured in at the Texas vs Nation all star game with an arm length of 30" 7/8ths.

Maybe that is the reason Williams rarely used his hands when pass rushing. The Golden Panther has some real edge speed to disrupt, especially against stiff offensive linemen, but this arm length certainly won't help the late-round pick. He measured in at 6032/259 pounds.

FIU senior DE Tourek Williams register two tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks, Friday night against Florida Atlantic.

He added one hit on the quarterback. Williams, a potential top-100 pick due to desirable edge speed and length, has put together a final collegiate season and expect to hear his name during one of the post season all star games.
