Patriots selected Georgia Tech DB Jemea Thomas with the No. 206 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Thomas (5-foot-9 1/8, 192) made 29 starts for the Yellow Jackets, playing safety and corner and essentially filling a "rover" role as a senior. He finished his career with nine interceptions. Thomas ran 4.55 at the Combine with a 37-inch vertical and 10-foot-5 broad jump, demonstrating explosive lower-body movement. A striker in the run game, Thomas is somewhat speed deficient and isn't build ideally for any particular position. He's just a good football player, and should help on special teams right away. Georgia Tech junior S Jemea Thomas announced that he will return for his senior season.

Thomas is not a name many had been waiting on to see if the safety was going to declare, but the senior decided to announce his plans anyways. Thomas wrote, “to clear things up I will be at georgia tech next year because I promised my grandmother a degree now go and write about that.” This is likely in response to an article that noted Thomas refused to comment if he would enter his name to the Draft Advisory Board.
