Jets signed Michigan State DE Lawrence Thomas.
Thomas (6'4/286) made 30 starts for the Spartans -- 14 at defensive tackle, 13 at defensive end, and three at fullback. He recorded 9.5 career tackles for loss, six sacks, and seven pass breakups. A former linebacker and running back, Thomas showed his athleticism in Indy with a 4.98 forty and 35-inch vertical. Thomas' weak college productivity is a concern, but he is a high-energy, versatile defensive lineman in a league seeking those players out. He has a shot to work his way into a rotation. The 6-foot-3, 294-pounder (Pro Day measurement) otherwise stood by his Combine results. In Indianapolis, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.98 seconds with a 35-inch vertical jump and 113-inch broad jump. Michigan State DL Lawrence Thomas will attend the Senior Bowl.

Thomas was one of a series of last-second additions to the Senior Bowl roster. He joins teammates center Jack Allen, receiver Aaron Burbridge and Shilique Calhoun at the Senior Bowl. Connor Cook skipped the event, a decision he may come to rue.

Michigan State redshirt senior DL Lawrence Thomas received an invite to the Senior Bowl.

We know of relatively few Senior Bowl invites, but Sparty has confirmed that five of its players -- QB Connor Cook, C Jack Allen, WR Aaron Burbridge, and DE Shilique Calhoun are the others -- have received invites, tying the school record for most players receiving an invitation to a senior all-star game. "The bottom line is that the NFL scouts are going into Michigan State on a regular basis because they're going to see legitimate players,'' Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage said. "After practice we interviewed eight players, and Dave Warner and Harlan Barnett, and of course Mark Dantonio." The Senior Bowl is reportedly still considering OL Donavon Clark, CB Arjen Colquhoun, LB Darien Harris, DT Joel Heath, WR Macgarrett Kings Jr. and S RJ Williamson for invites.

Michigan State redshirt freshman FB Lawrence Thomas may be making a move to defense for the 2013 season.

This news comes on the heels of head coach Mark Dantonio announcing that backup linebacker TyQuan Hammock would be practicing at fullback. Thomas has some experience at defensive end, so that may be where he spends his time in 2013.
