Mississippi State senior S Nickoe Whitley underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL on Monday.
Whitley underwent the surgery on Monday. The senior apparently played hurt since the third week of the season, and doctors knew at that time he would need surgery at some point. "He said, 'I'm not giving up on the team, I'm going to play it out, and I'll (have surgery) after the last regular-season game," Dan Mullen said. Whitley projects as a third day selection. The National Football Post's Justin VanFulpen considers Mississippi State S Nickoe Whitley is the top senior at his position.

"Whitley is a good-sized safety who can make plays both in the passing game and run game," according to VanFulpen. Kansas State's Ty Zimmerman, Louisville's Hakeem Smith, Vanderbilt's Kenny Ladler, and Michigan State's Isaiah Lewis round of VanFulpen's top five. We would add UNC's Tre Boston to this list, and possibly even at the top.

Mississippi State junior S Nickoe Whitley has requested an evaluation from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.

Whitley is a part of the talented Bulldogs secondary which includes corners Johnthan Banks and Darius Slay. The junior ruptured his achilles tendon in 2011, but Whitley played in every game this season. We expect him to return to school.
