Jaguars selected Florida International SS Johnathan Cyprien with the No. 33 overall pick.
Cyprien (6-0, 217) was a 45-game starter at FIU and is the school's record holder in both career tackles (365) and forced fumbles (six). Cyprien added seven interceptions. Used primarily as a box strong safety in the Sun Belt, Cyprien offers tremendous upside because he also has great range. NFL Films' Greg Cosell and Rotoworld's Josh Norris have both opined that Cyprien may develop into this year's top safety -- ahead of first-rounders Kenny Vaccaro and Eric Reid. Cyprien ran forty times of 4.64 and 4.65 at his March 16 Pro Day and did 18 reps on the bench. He has some Dashon Goldson to his game. Fri, Apr 26, 2013 06:40:00 PM

NFL Network's Albert Breer notes that FIU S Johnathan Cyprien "could be in play" for the Jaguars at pick No. 33.

"Expect the Jags to field offers for that pick," Breer tweeted, regarding the first selection of the second-round. "If it's not a deal down, or a QB, Cyprien could be in play too." We love Cyprien and consider him a first-round talent. His name will likely be called very early on Friday.

FIU S Johnathan Cyprien is having a private workout for Bengals DC Mike Zimmer on Monday.

We love this fit but have been wary of connecting the two, since the Bengals tend to value prospects who come from big schools. Cyprien is more talented than the likes of Matt Elam and Eric Reid, but all three are generating buzz. Pick No. 21 is a great landing spot for Cyprien.

Former NFL GM Charley Casserly believes FIU S Johnathan Cyprien "misses an awful lot of tackles."

Casserly considers Cyprien a second-round talent. "I think he makes mistakes on play action," He said. "At times I question what he sees and I see some stiffness in him in man-to-man coverage." We think Cyprien is one of the surer tacklers in space among the safety position and showed more range at the Senior Bowl than was allowed at FIU.

FIU S Jonathan Cyprien will work out for the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals are definitely interested in this year's safeties and Cyprien is one of the best, if not the best. He's rangy, physical and versatile, showing the ability to play in the box or deep in center-field. He's expected to be a top 50 selection.

FIU S Jonathan Cyprien visited the 49ers and will visit the Dolphins.

Cyprien is arguably the top safety in this year's class and could go anywhere from the end of the first round to the middle of the second. He's a dynamic and explosive athlete, with the ability to come down and lay the wood or track the football deep in coverage. It would not surprise us if he goes in the final third of the first round.

FIU S Johnathan Cyprien has visited the Browns.

Beta writer Mary Kay Cabot projects Cyprien as a second- or third-rounder, but we think he is a top 50 pick, if not locked into the first-round. The team does not have a second-round selection at this time, but could be viewed as the likeliest top 10 team to trade out of their pick.

NFL.com's Bucky Brooks believes FIU S Jonathan Cyprien's talent warrants a second day selection.

Cyprien ranked fourth on Brooks' top five overrated prospects. "The league has implemented strict rules against launching and hitting defenseless receivers, which will force Cyprien to change key parts of his game to avoid penalties and fines," Brooks writes. "Although it is possible for him to make the adjustment without incident, the transition must be factored into the evaluation when considering Cyprien as a first-round selection."

FIU S Johnathan Cyprien will visit the Titans on Thursday.

The Titans hold pick No. 10 in April's draft, and although we think Cyprien will be selected much earlier than many expect, this would be on the high side. We love the safeties controlled aggression in the box and his range as a single high safety is overlooked.

NFL Films' Greg Cosell could see FIU's Johnathan Cyprien becoming the best S "in this draft class three or four years down the road."

Yes. Cyprien has been a section favorite since prior to the Senior Bowl, where he showed more range than was allowed at FIU due to his role as primarily a strong safety. "Even as a deep defender, Cyprien showed a very smooth back pedal, with the ability to plant and drive with burst and speed," Cosell writes. "I must admit I did not expect that. And his range as a single high safety, with his size and stride length, was outstanding."

Pro Football Talk reports FIU S Johnathan Cyprien has 11 team visits set up.

The site tweeted the 11 teams that Cyprien will be visiting with via their official Twitter account. They are as follows: "Falcons, Panthers, Redskins, Cowboys, Dolphins, Jags, Cards, Titans, Browns, Niners, Texans." Cyprien would be a good fit for any of the listed teams and offers toughness, range and instincts at the position. He reminds us of the Green Bay Packers' Morgan Burnett.

FIU S Johnathan Cyprien is working out for the Panthers on Tuesday.

We are guessing Cyprien is in Carolina going through the workout, since Jenna Laine, who provided the report, stated that this is the first of seven or eight team visits. It might not be popular, but we think Cyprien is almost certainly a first-round selection and our own Josh Norris recently ranked him at No. 19 overall.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah believes FIU S Johnathan Cyprien is a "day one starter."

We've been saying the same and consider Cyprien the second best safety in the 2013 class. Jeremiah calls the FIU Golden Panther "rock solid, well-rounded... Fluid, athletic, tough," with good "ball skills." He was asked to play close to the line of scrimmage quite a bit in college, but showed plenty of range while at the Senior Bowl. "My only concern with Cyprien involved a couple issues with communication... not on the same page with CB... Teams will ask him about those plays."

FIU head coach Ron Turner says NFL teams love S Johnathan Cyprien.

"I know the (NFL) guys love him," Turner said. "Everyone I’ve talked to feels really good about him and I can see why. He’s a really good player." Turner made the comments at the school's pro day which Cyprien ran a 4.5 40-yard dash at. All 32 teams were represented at Cyprien's pro day. He reminds us a lot of the Green Bay Packers' Morgan Burnett.

FIU S Johnathan Cyprien ran a forty in the low 4.5s during the school's pro day.

Cyprien missed the forty at the NFL Combine due to a hamstring injury, so today's times will be the first teams' take during the draft process. His second run reportedly was in the high 4.5s. We think Cyprien has a great chance to be the second safety selected in April.
