Jaguars selected Florida S Josh Evans with the No. 169 overall pick.
Evans (6-1, 207) was Matt Elam's bookend for the Gators, making 24 career starts and picking off five passes. A member of the UF track team early in his college career, Evans has fluid hips and the range to cover center field. He ran 4.58 at the Combine with a 10-foot-3 broad jump. Evans also has extensive special teams experience. That's where he'll contribute as a rookie. Sat, Apr 27, 2013 03:44:00 PM

Florida S Josh Evans has visits lined up with the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets.

Evans has had previous visits, with teams such as the New England Patriots, New York Giants and Cleveland Browns. It's been said in the past that Evans is a better prospect than teammate Matt Elam, who is also highly regarded. National Football Post's Russ Lande recently wrote that Evans was more fluid and athletic than Elam at the school's pro day.

National Football Post's Russ Lande writes Florida S Josh Evans was more fluid and athletic than teammate Matt Elam.

"Although not an explosive athlete, Evans was smooth throughout the positional drills staying over his feet and changing directions easily," Lande wrote. "One NFL person in attendance told us that it was clear to him that Evans is the more flexible and fluid athlete of the two safeties, Matt Elam being the other, and that he felt Evans was also better in coverage in games."

Florida S Josh Evans ran in the low 4.6s during the school's pro day on Tuesday.

Evans showed well at the East-West Shrine game and drew consistent praise from defensive backs coach Marlon McCree. Likely projecting as a free safety or center fielder, Evans could earn a mid-third day selection.

National Football Post's Russ Lande writes that some scouts prefer S Josh Evans to teammate Matt Elam.

This comes as a little bit of a surprise considering many seem to really like Elam's aggressiveness and physicality despite his stature. It'll be interesting to see how many choose to pass up Elam in favor of another safety or potentially wait to draft one. Evans is bigger than Elam but is projected to go in day three.
