Seahawks signed USC undrafted S Dion Bailey.
Bailey (6-foot, 201) played the old safety/linebacker hybrid position at USC, made famous by the likes of Darnell Bing. Possessing 4.66 speed and limited all-around athleticism (34" vertical, 9'5" broad jump), Bailey will most likely prove a solid college defender whose skill set fails to transition to the pros. The priority UDFA projects as a special teamer and possible dime linebacker. May 11 - 1:50 PM

USC redshirt junior S/LB Dion Bailey declared for the NFL Draft.

Bailey will graduate from school in the coming weeks, and after holding a starting spot for the last three seasons there is very little for him to prove. Bailey could fill the hybrid defensive role NFL teams' might covet in this year's draft. He has experience at safety and smaller linebacker, which is a role growing in importance at the pro level.

USC senior Dion Bailey, who is transitioning from LB to S, has dropped 10 pounds and currently tips the scales at 198 pounds.

Bailey was a linebacker in Monte Kiffin's cover 2 defense, and the Trojans put an emphasis on quicker linebackers. In fact, Bailey was the strong side backer despite his best projection likely being on the weakside in that alignment. His evaluation could be better at safety, however.

USC redshirt junior Dion Bailey is excited to be moving back to S after spending time at OLB.

Despite possessing less than ideal size of a typical player at the position, Bailey lined up at the strong side spot the last two seasons. In fact, it could be argued that Bailey's was one of Monte Kiffin's top defensive players over that stretch of time. "The coaches and I talked about it, and they decided that it was the proper time to make the move, and it’s definitely where I feel comfortable," Bailey said. "It’s like being back home. It’s where I can use my natural abilities, play in open space, make plays on the ball and make open-field tackles. I’m excited to be out there roaming in the back."

USC listed redshirt junior Dion Bailey at SS on their spring football two-deep roster.

Bailey's listing does come with an asterisk, as he missed a large portion of spring work while recovering from shoulder surgery. USC notes his "depth chart standing" could not be evaluated due to the injury. However, his listing as a safety could be telling in regards to scheme, as the Trojans have attempted to get faster at linebacker in recent years, with Bailey being a main member of that move.
