During Utah's Pro Day on Thursday, QB Kendal Thompson took part in wide receiver drills.
Playing behind starter Travis Wilson, Thompson completed 28-of-36 passes for 220 yards and a 1/1 TD/INT ratio in four games this past season. There is no realistic path for him to play quarterback at the NFL level, though, and he's now exploring other options. Namely, wide receiver and punt returner. Said Thompson of transitioning toward the new horizon, "Just the challenge of learning new techniques at receiver and catching punts is new to me. But the competitor I am, I embrace that challenge." The Salt Lake Tribune's Kyle Goon wrote that Thompson "didn't [drop] too many passes" and, at times, showed "soft hands" during position drills. He is a probable undrafted free agent at this point. Oklahoma redshirt sophomore Kendal Thompson announced that he will transfer after he graduates in May.

It's not surprising, as Thompson was set to languish behind Trevor Knight and Blake Bell on the depth chart once again in 2014. Thompson should be granted immediate eligibility to play next fall because he will graduate this spring. If that's the case, he'd have two years of eligibility remaining.

Oklahoma redshirt sophomore Kendal Thompson is likely out of the starting QB race after injuring his foot.

Thompson broke his right foot on Thursday and will undergo surgery to speed up the recovery process. "We're optimistic that Kendal will return early in the season," head coach Bob Stoops said. "He has a very positive outlook and is eager to rejoin his teammates on the field as soon as possible." Blake Bell will almost certainly open the season as the starter.

Oklahoma redshirt sophomore QB Kendal Thompson was arrested for public intoxication and interfering with police on Friday.

Oklahoma is aware of the situation but there has been no word on possible further action. At one point Thompson was being mentioned as competition with Blake Bell for the starting quarterback position, but Bell appeared to snag the starting role this spring.
