West Georgia edge rusher Darrius Caldwell "is angular and lacks the necessary strength at the point of attack to hold up against NFL-caliber strength," writes NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein.
Caldwell is eligible for Thursday's NFL Supplemental Draft. Zierlein doesn't think he'll be picked. "Despite playing defensive end in college, he would have to transition into a 3-4 edge spot to have a shot," he wrote. Caldwell was dismissed from Illinois after he filled a sub-package role (17 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2012). He went to Pearl River Community College for a year before committing to Arizona State, a school he never reached because of academics. He had 12 sacks last year for WGU. Jul 8 - 4:34 PM

Illinois head coach Tom Beckman has dismissed redshirt sophomore DE Darrius Caldwell for a violation of unspecified team rules.

Caldwell recorded five tackles for loss, including 2.5 sacks, as a redshirt freshman in 2012, a great line for a sub-package player who saw action in 12 games. He also forced a fumble and recovered one. We expect Caldwell's name to surface with another program.
