Saints signed Sam Houston State RB Tim Flanders.
Flanders (5-foot-8 5/8, 207) left Sam Houston State as the Southland Conference's all-time leader in rushing yards (5,664) and touchdowns (66). Although he ran 4.75 in Indy and was underutilized in the passing game in college, Flanders improved to 4.56 at the Bearkats' Pro Day and reminds of Rams feature back Zac Stacy on tape with a bowling-ballish build and ability to beat first contact. A gifted enough runner to make an NFL roster, Flanders is worth monitoring in fantasy circles despite his low profile, though he will find playing time hard to come by early in his career. The New Orleans' backfield is as muddy as any in the league. May 11 - 1:57 PM

Date:

Sam Houston Sate RB Tim Flanders will visit the Saints, according to draft insider Tony Pauline.

We don't believe Flanders counts as a local visit, since Sam Houston State is located in Texas, but we could be wrong. Flanders attended the East-West Shrine game and is a sixth- or seventh-round pick, at best.

Sam Houston State senior RB Tim Flanders accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game.

Flanders, SHSU's all-time leader in rushing and scoring, enjoyed a hugely productive career as a four-year starter with the Bearkats. The problem is that he doesn't have the size (5-foot-9, 212 pounds) or measurables to be a productive back at the next level. Flanders will likely be a priority free agent signing after the draft and a camp body next summer.

Scouts Inc.'s Todd McShay calls Sam Houston State senior RB Tim Flanders a possible sleeper for the 2014 NFL Draft.

McShay seemed very impressed With Flanders' downfield receiving ability, recalling two long catches against Baylor. However, after tallying 56 receiving yards that game, Flanders only added 72 yards the rest of the season. He did rush for 5.7 yards per carry and crossed the end zone 17 times.
