Louisville CB Charles Gaines surprisingly checked in No. 8 on NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein's list of corners.
To put this ranking in perspective, this section has written one blurb about Gaines previously, and that one was almost two years ago. Needless to say, other scribes and evaluators haven't been discussing the Cardinals' prospect. "Field corner in college who plays with a great deal of confidence and alertness, processing with above-average instincts," Zierlein wrote. "Looks for chances to jump telegraphed throws. Gaines has a thinner frame than desired and will have teams running at him to see if he'll come up and tackle. His cover skills underneath are near the top of this draft class, but he gave up a few open looks on deep balls and that could cause concern for NFL teams." Zierlein compares Gaines to Patrick Robinson. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder was a first-team All-American Athletic Conference selection after switching from wide receiver to cornerback in 2013, and he was selected honorable mention All-ACC in 2014 after posting 12 passes defensed and two intercept Mar 30 - 6:27 PM

Louisville redshirt sophomore Charles Gaines has been reinstated to the program as a CB.

Gaines missed time with the program after landing in Charlie Strong's doghouse in 2012. Despite being listed as the team's starting receiver, Gaines was held out of the first game of the season because Strong felt he "didn't deserve to play."
