Matthews (6'0/213) also put up 22 reps on the bench press and ran the 40-yard dash in the mid 4.5 range. This is a strong showing for a player that wasn't known to be exceptionally athletic. Pauline has gone on record saying that Matthews "elevate[d] his game" during the 2017 season and expects him to be drafted in the fifth-round. Auburn redshirt senior S Tray Matthews (hamstring) is questionable for Saturday's game against Arkansas.

Matthews (6'0/196) sat out the second half of Saturday's loss to LSU after injuring the hamstring. Daniel Thomas and Nick Ruffin worked in relief of the redshirt senior this past weekend and would do so again against Akransas if Matthews can't play. Prior to the injury, he had recorded 26 tackles and an interception.

He is in line to start for the coming campaign, assuming he can maintain his health.

NFL Media ranks Auburn sophomore S Tray Matthews as the No. 3 transfer impact in the nation.

The No. 10 safety prospect in the 2013 recruiting class was dismissed from Georgia by coach Mark Richt, forcing his move to a conference rival. "His athleticism should help an Auburn secondary that repeatedly was torched last season. New defensive coordinator Will Muschamp asks a lot of his defensive backs, and Matthews has the skill set to become a star," writes College Football 24/7 writer Mike Huguenin. Matthews started six games and collected 36 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble as a freshman in Athens.

Georgia head coach Mark Richt addressed the recent arrest of four players -- including safety Tray Matthews -- on Tuesday.

Matthews, defensive linemen Jonathan Taylor and James DeLoach and wide receiver Uriah LeMay were arrested after a failed scam involving stipend checks. "At Georgia, we’ve never tried to hide things," Richt said. "If somebody makes a mistake, we clean it up. We don’t hide it. In due time, everyone’s going to know what’s going to happen because of it. Some things when it comes to discipline are very public and some things aren’t. I’m not sure exactly where this is going to fall. If there’s something that we need to let everybody know, we’ll let y’all know." Richt insinuated that game suspensions or even possibly dismissals were not out of the question.
