Colts selected Ball State OLB Jonathan Newsome with the No. 166 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Newsome (6-foot-2 5/8, 247) spent two seasons at Ball State after transferring in from Ohio State, where he was originally a three-star recruit. He registered 24 tackles for loss with the Cardinals -- including 16.5 sacks -- and forced two fumbles. Newsome ran 4.73 at the Combine with a 9-foot-9 broad jump and 34-inch vertical. With more burst than his measurables indicate, Newsome can rush the passer in a rotation at the next level. He's just not going to be an every-down player due to size and run-defense limitations. SI's Chris Burke was told to keep an eye on Ball State senior DE Jonathan Newsome.

Burke notes Newsome could be termed a "riser" in the 2014 draft class. The former Ohio State Buckeye transferred to Ball State in 2011 and saw his first on-field action last season. In 10 starts he tallied 12.5 tackles for loss, including 8.5 sacks.
