Ravens selected Ball State QB Keith Wenning with the No. 194 overall pick in the 2014 draft.
Wenning (6-foot-2 5/8, 218) made 47 starts for the Cardinals, logging a 27-20 record, 92:42 TD-to-INT ratio, and 63.0 completion rate. He was a second-team All-MAC pick as a senior, behind Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch. Wenning is a sub-par athlete (5.00 forty, 8-foot-4 broad jump) and lacks arm strength to drive the ball, but shows composure in the pocket and could perhaps keep the chains moving if eventually forced to make NFL spot starts. He profiles as a long-term backup. Sat, May 10, 2014 04:30:00 PM

Ball State QB Keith Wenning "is drawing a good amount of interest from teams," according to draft insider Tony Pauline.

Wenning has had eight visits and another eight workouts, according to Pauline. He's been hosted by the Vikings, Packers, Ravens, Rams and Patriots, and performed a private workout for the Browns. Wenning has career backup upside, but has a decent probability of sticking on a roster, which is why he'll probably go in Round 6 or 7.

Ball State QB Keith Wenning worked out for the Ravens on Tuesday and has two upcoming meetings scheduled, according to National Football Post's Aaron Wilson.

He'll talk with Vikings' management on Wednesday, and hop over to that squad's greatest rivals when he speaks with the Packers the next day. Wenning has a chance to carve out a career as a backup, but that's about the extent of his upside. He won't be able to pop the top off the defense, but could potentially, in a pinch, move the sticks with short-to-intermediate completions. He doesn't make a ton of mistakes, which is why you might hear his name called in Rds. 6 or 7.

Ball State QB Keith Wenning worked out for the Jaguars on Wednesday, according to's Gil Brandt.

The Browns, along the general manager ray Farmer, will work out Wenning next. The Ball State passer has nine total workouts scheduled, with the Patriots being another. Wenning is at his best in the short to intermediate areas, climbing the pocket and finding the right place to go with the football. He is a sixth-rounder at best.

Ball State senior QB Keith Wenning has been the most impressive quarterback during Shrine Game practices, according to's Bucky Brooks.

Wenning "threw the ball with better zip and velocity" than teammates Keith Price (Washington) and Tommy Rees (Notre Dame). "Wenning also stood out with his accuracy and ball placement," Brooks wrote. "He connected on a handful of curls and dig routes that showcased his anticipation, and a completion on a deep crosser highlighted his touch." On the second day of practices, according to Brooks, Wenning "continued to be the headliner of the class by showing consistent ball placement and accuracy on throws in drills" and flashed "superior anticipation and awareness releasing the ball well before his receivers make breaks." If Wenning keeps this up, scouts will have no choice but to upgrade their grades on him.

Ball State senior QB Keith Wenning measured 6 feet two and 3 eighths of an inch and weighed in at 219 pounds at the East-West Shrine Game.

Wenning's path to a superior draft slot would have been easier if he'd measured in at his listed height of 6-foot-3. Wenning was a four-year starter for the no-huddle, pro-style Cardinals. He spent the fall semester ridiculing Ball State's career passing records, completing 319-of-498 passes for 4,148 yards, 35 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Wenning makes quick decision and gets the ball into the hands of the correct receiver with good velocity and placement in the short to intermediate game. At the very least, he should be a capable NFL backup.

Wenning made a mockery of most of Ball State's passing records this season, completing 296-of-454 passes for 3,933 yards with 34 touchdowns and six interceptions. Often overshadowed in the MAC by Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch, Wenning will leave school as the Cardinals' career leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, pass completions and pass attempts. He's a quick decision maker who gets the ball into the hands of the correct receiver with good velocity and placement in the short to intermediate game.

The surgery was of the arthroscopic variety on Wenning's left knee. "We fully expect he will be back on the practice field in a relatively short time and ready to go for the season opener Aug. 29," head coach Pete Lembo said in the release. Wenning could wind up being the MAC's top quarterback prospect, but he will have to prove his case to earn a selection next May.
