According to TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline, BYU T Ryker Mathews met with the Lions following Friday's Pro Day.
During Pro Day festivities, Mathews locked up a nice-for-a-lineman time of 5.05 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He also flew upwards to the sun 28.5 inches with his vertical leap and turned home 23 bench press reps. Pauline was high on the 6-foot-5, 316-pounder heading into the season, writing that he had the "underlying skill to play on Sunday if he steps it up on Saturday" back in September. The analyst remains a fan, noting that he "should be a late-round pick as a swing lineman who can play tackle or guard." Mar 25 - 10:31 PM

Draft Insider Tony Pauline believes BYU redshirt senior LT Ryker Mathews "has the underlying skill to play on Sunday if he steps it up on Saturday."

"I was pleasantly surprised to hear some area scouts have stamped Ryker Mathews as a potential late round pick. After his freshman season I graded Mathews as a possible third round offensive tackle but his game has leveled off to the point of regressing the past two seasons," Pauline wrote. The 6-foot-6, 322-pound Mathews dealt with a torn labrum during his freshman season, and then suffered severe hip injuries, forcing him to undergo double-hip surgery prior to 2013. The BYU prospect returned to form last season, and was recently selected to the Outland Trophy Watch List.

Draft insider Tony Pauline believes BYU redshirt sophomore LT Ryker Mathews has the potential to be dominant.

Pauline calls Mathews a "good college player" right now, but the glowing praise comes from only one season seeing on-field action. An injury did lead to his redshirt season, but Mathews was a coveted recruit out of high school and is only improving.
