Alabama redshirt junior LG Ross Pierschbacher (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday.

Pierschbacher is expected to miss 2-4 weeks of action due to a high ankle sprain, so it's no huge surprise that he sat out practice on Wednesday (he was sporting a boot). He initially suffered the injury in the first quarter of Saturday's win over Mississippi State, with J.C. Hassenauer taking over in his place after he exited stage left. Pierschbacher will almost certainly miss this weekend's upcoming game against Mercer, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility that he could return against Auburn the week after.

Alabama redshirt junior LG Ross Pierschbacher is expected to miss 2-4 weeks due to a high ankle sprain.

Pierschbacher went down with the injury in the first quarter against Mississippi State and J.C. Hassenauer replaced him in the starting lineup. Alabama has a cupcake game against Mercer, but the biggest game of the season looms after that when the Crimson Tide will face Auburn.

Alabama moved redshirt sophomore G Ross Pierschbacher to center.

He's replacing Ryan Kelly. Pierschbacher, the No. 1 guard in the 2014 recruiting class, started all 15 games at LG last year for the national champs. Though he did't surrender a sack, Pierschbacher gave up 17 pressures and actually drew negative PFF grades in both run and pass blocking. "His propensity to stop his feet on contact on both run and pass plays left him at times unable to sustain blocks, and this is something he will need to improve upon considerably, especially considering how quickly defenders will be able to get into him off the snap," Josh Liskiewitz wrote. If Cam Robinson gets suspended, Alabama's line will return only two 2015 starters, Pierschbacher and G Alphonse Taylor. It's the one area of the team that's a big open question heading into the fall.

Ross Pierschbacher, the No 1. guard in the 2014 recruiting class, flipped from Iowa to Alabama on Sunday.

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa product originally committed to the Hawkeyes in January 2013. He's now apart of Alabama's No. 1-ranked recruiting class. Alabama has the necessary depth to redshirt Pierschbacher, which might be a good idea because the high school senior holds only 269 pounds on his 6-foot-4 frame. Pierschbacher is a technically-sound, athletically-gifted gamer who doesn't take plays off. He's the No. 48 overall player on the ESPN 300.
