Iowa State redshirt senior QB Sam Richardson should have opportunities to provide DFS value against a struggling Texas Tech defense on Saturday.
On FanDuel, Richardson costs a very reasonable $7,300. This season, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound redshirt senior's thrown for 1,018 yards with a 7/3 TD/INTO ratio through four games. The most appealing aspect of Richardson, though, is that reeling Texas Tech defense. They're a Bottom-6 squad in terms of scoring defense, currently surrendering 41.40 points on average. They're allowing a shade under 280 yards rushing and a shade over 305 yards passing per contest. We like Richardson as a match-up play and this is about as good a match-up as he's going to see this season. Fri, Oct 9, 2015 10:54:00 PM

Iowa State redshirt senior QB Sam Richardson gets a nod for ESPN's Big 12 "All-Underrated" team.

"He is becoming a trusted leader. Coach Paul Rhoads believes he can be a top-three QB in this conference," ESPN's Max Olson wrote. In 11 starts last season, the Iowa State prospect produced 3,090 yards of total offense, passing for 2,669 yards, while rushing for 421 yards and 21 total TDs. Richardson is one of only four QBs in Cyclones' history to rush for over 1,000 yards (1,010) in a career.

Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads announced on Tuesday that redshirt sophomore QB Sam Richardson will remain the team's starter.

Some Cyclones fans have seen enough of Richardson and would prefer that Rhoads go with freshman Grant Rohach -- who made his college debut in Saturday's blowout loss at Baylor -- but that isn't going to happen. "The No. 1 reason is just the knowledge that he has overall, of pre-snap and post-snap," Rhoads said. "Sam's knowledge is just far ahead, quite simply, of where Grant's knowledge is. That's just time and experience." The 1-5 Cyclones host No. 19 Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Iowa State redshirt sophomore QB Sam Richardson will begin the season as starter.

Cyclones head coach Paul Rhoads defied current college football standard operating procedure when he waived his right to withhold the starter's identity until a few minutes before the opener's kickoff. In fact, Rhoads decided on Richardson over redshirt freshman Grant Rohach (the No. 28 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2012, according to Rivals) prior to the start of fall camp. "[Rohach has done] some things well and has the confidence of our players as we move along," Rhoads said at the ISU media day. "If something happened to Sam -- his helmet came off and he had to miss a snap -- and Grant went in there, there wouldn't be any reservation or hesitation by our kids to keep moving along with our offense."
