USC commit DE Malik Dorton believes Lane Kiffin's firing will help the Trojans' in recruiting.
"Just talking to some other guys, it would open up a lot of possibilities with some highly rated recruits if Kiffin was gone," Dorton said. ESPN 300 athlete John "JuJu" Smith of Long Beach said, "I already knew it was coming, so it doesn't change anything until they [hire a new coach]." Adoree' Jackson, a five-star recruit from Gardena, Calif., echoed that sentiment: "I do not think it can affect my interest until I get a chance to talk to the new coach and USC's current staff." Four-star TE Bryce Dixon of Ventura, Calif., referred to the firing as a "tragedy" and said "hopefully SC chooses another great coach." One can picture Kiffin reading that quote and thinking, "Somebody thinks I'm a great coach?" ala Ben Stiller on the Tyra Banks Show in "Tropic Thunder." Mon, Sep 30, 2013 02:34:00 PM

Malik Dorton, the No. 212 overall recruit in the 2014 ESPN 300, committed to USC last week.

The four-star recruit ranks as the nation's No. 20 defensive end. "I know they only signed one defensive lineman last year (four-star DT Kenny Bigelow), so there's a chance I can come in and play right away," Dorton said. "The coaches have talked to me about that and I've seen it for myself at practices. I know about it." Dorton chose the Trojans over a list that included Arizona State, Boise State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, UCLA and Washington.
