Giants selected Alabama DL Dalvin Tomlinson with the No. 55 overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft.
Tomlinson (6’3/310) was a three-year contributor on the Alabama's loaded defensive line, earning a first-team role as a fifth-year senior and tallying 62 tackles with three sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. PFF College charted Tomlinson with just three missed tackles during his entire career, and nine batted passes over his final two seasons. While Tomlinson lacks explosive pass-rush tools, he offers plus length with 33-inch arms and flashed pocket-pushing power on tape. An old-school nose guard, Tomlinson was one of the nation’s most impenetrable run stuffers. In the NFL, Tomlinson projects as a block-shedding space eater who will likely leave the field on passing downs. This is a clear response to losing Johnathan Hankins. Apr 28 - 9:03 PM

An AFC South area scout said that Alabama DL Dalvin Tomlinson is "a dude."

"I don't know how he flew under the radar so long," the scout said, later adding " If you liked those guys from last year (Jarran Reed and A'Shawn Robinson), no reason you won't like this one." The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder draws similar high praise from NFL Media's Lance Zierlein, who writes that Tomlinson has "a chance to become an early starter and should work into a defensive line rotation immediately."

An NFL scout told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Alabama DL Dalvin Tomlinson is "not great" but will be "a good, solid pro."

"Could develop into a quality nose tackle," he said. Tomlinson entered the starting lineup as a senior after functioning as a rotation cog behind A’shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed. "Strong at the point of attack," said another scout. "He’s got strong hips, good hands, hard to move on run blocks. Not a dominant pass rusher but can get push and is athletic enough to edge the blocker. One-technique or 3-technique."

NJ.com's Mark Eckel believes the Eagles "have to add" a mid-round pick along the defensive line.

Eckel says it will be difficult for the Eagles to keep Bennie Logan, who serves as the team's nose tackle. Logan was a third round pick in 2013 and almost immediately inserted as a starter. We think Alabama's Dalvin Tomlinson is a great fit as a nose tackle who can work up the field.

Alabama DL Dalvin Tomlinson accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl.

Tomlinson is a grizzled, workmanlike, space-clogging cog in the Alabama defensive line. This year, 48 of his 54 tackles came against the run. He added three sacks, seven quarterback hurries and four pass breakups.

Alabama redshirt senior DL Dalvin Tomlinson "shows good explosiveness and gets good leverage, and he's a hard worker who's always moving," writes ESPN's Mel Kiper.

Against Florida in the SEC title game, Tomlinson had five tackles and two quarterback hurries. The 6-foot-2, 310-pounder finished the season with three sacks. "Versatility is an important part of his pro future, as he could play in a 4-3 defense or even as a nose tackle in a 3-4," Kiper wrote. "Tomlinson's going to be a nice get for a team in the middle rounds of the draft."

Alabama coach Nick Saban all but ruled out redshirt freshman DL Dalvin Tomlinson (knee) for the season.

Unless a miracle occurs, Tomlinson's debut season ends with just four tackles. This may open up the opportunity for Tomlinson to apply for a medical redshirt in the future. Tomlinson, who was No. 2 on the defensive end depth chart at the time of his injury, underwent knee surgery back in early September.

Alabama redshirt freshman DL Dalvin Tomlinson will undergo knee surgery and should be sidelined indefinitely.

"I’m not going to comment on what the issue is," head coach Nick Saban said. "They’ll know for sure when they do the surgery and we’ll let you know what the outcome of the surgery is when they do it. But other than that I think we’re well along." Tomlinson made four tackles in his collegiate debut and was running as the No. 2 defensive end.
