Redskins selected Nebraska OG Spencer Long with the No. 78 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Long (6-foot-4 5/8, 320) made 33 starts for Nebraska, primarily at right guard, before suffering a season-ending left MCL tear six games into his senior year. He pumped 225 pounds 28 times at his Pro Day. When healthy, Long is a huge-handed (10 3/4") drive blocker with tools to be a running-game asset. He has average athleticism for pass blocking, but upside to become a starting right guard. Long's senior-year injury could ultimately make him a draft-day steal. May 9 - 10:18 PM

Nebraska G Spencer Long met with the Dolphins last week, according to insider Adam Caplan.

Rumored to be targeting a RT in the first round, the Dolphins are well aware that their beleaguered offensive line will need more help than that in this draft. With that in mind, Long (6-foot-5, 320 pounds) could be a nice third-day pick. Long is a brawling road-grader that will need to improve his pass protection, something he was doing before a knee injury in mid-October ended his season. "I just feel bad for the guy," offensive line coach John Garrison said at the time. "A guy that works his tail off. He’s a great leader for us."

Nebraska G Spencer Long has visits with the Dolphins, Falcons, Chargers and Eagles, according to insider Adam Caplan.

Long suffered a knee injury in October, so the visits could be medical related. Teams will be searching for third day offensive linemen that are worth investing in, and Long is a name to keep in mind.

Nebraska senior G Spencer Long could miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

No official word was given on the injury, but the staff seems to believe it is serious. "I just feel bad for the guy," offensive line coach John Garrison said. "A guy that works his tail off. He’s a great leader for us.... We’re going to move on, though. We've got to move on." The injury occurred in the first quarter.
