Jaguars sign Minnesota CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun.
Boddy-Calhoun (5'10/193) was a two-year starter in the Gophers' secondary, piling up nine interceptions and 15 pass breakups across his final two seasons. The ballhawk showed plus athleticism in Indy, blazing 4.47 with a 10-foot-4 broad jump and 35-inch vertical. On game tape, Boddy-Calhoun allowed too much separation when aligned on the perimeter, and will have to become a full-time NFL slot corner. He'll open his career covering punts and kicks. Minnesota CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun said he was dogged by a knee injury last season.

"Some days I felt 95 percent. Some days I felt about 75 percent going into the game," Boddy-Calhoun said. "Compared to now, where I’m 100 percent every day, no pain at all. Just looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. It made me stronger." Boddy-Calhoun tore his left ACL in 2013 but returned to make the first-team All-Big Ten squad as a junior. Last year, his knees became an issue again and the 5-foot-11, 188-pounder slipped to third-team All-Conference, picking off four passes.

It is imperative that Minnesota CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun tests well at the combine, according to NFL Media Draft Analyst Lance Zierlein.

"Small cornerback who played outside and from the slot, but must become a full--time slot cornerback on the next level due to his lack of size and strength," Zierlein wrote. "Boddy--Calhoun allowed entirely too much separation at times and he has a difficult time mustering enough closing speed when beaten over the top. His lack of traits could push him down the draft boards so he needs to have a big postseason to keep his draft stock alive." The 5-foot-11, 188-pounder garnered third-team All-Conference honors last season after picking off four passes. Health is a concern. Boddy-Calhoun tore his left ACL in 2013.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline has concerns about Boddy-Calhoun's frame and rawness in coverage, but the analyst thinks he's a potential third-rounder.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun returned an interception for a touchdown in Saturday's 31-21 loss against Wisconsin.

Entering the day 5-6, the Gophers' playing-for-a-bowl-berth afternoon kicked off in style with Boddy-Calhoun picking off Joel Stave and returning it 16 yards to the house early in the first quarter. Unfortunately, Minnesota's offense flat refused do its part. The Badgers outscored the Gophers 31-7 from that point until midway through the fourth, when Minnesota cut the deficit to 10 with a touchdown. Boddy-Calhoun's college career is now over. The 5-foot-11, 188-pounder was given a Rd. 3 grade by TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline before the season.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun (knee) will return Saturday against Nebraska.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Purdue.

The Gophers' roster is decimated. Starting offensive linemen Josh Campion and Brian Bobek didn't even make the trip, DL Scott Ekpe and Gaelin Elmore are out, as is DB Damarius Travis. Minnesota HC Jerry Kill announced redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun (knee) is "real questionable" for Saturday's Northwestern game.

"Doesn't sound good for this week," added beat writer Joe Christensen. Fortunately, Boddy-Calhoun will not need surgery on his injured knee. Boddy-Calhoun is crucial to Minnesota's strong defense, though his absence may not be felt as acutely this weekend because Northwestern doesn't throw the ball effectively. The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Boddy-Calhoun collected 51 tackles, 2 TFL, nine breakups and five interceptions last year.

Knee injuries, followed by MRIs, are always scary, but the news is positive in this case. Boddy-Calhoun previously tore an ACL in 2013, but has responded remarkably well and is playing at a high level. Minnesota has dealt with a number of injuries this season and face a difficult Northwestern team this weekend.

The Gophers are seriously banged up, with at least 13 players on the two-deep injured or playing hurt. "Briean's the one I'm concerned about," coach Jerry Kill said Sunday. Boddy-Calhoun currently carries a Day 2 draft grade. He has 21 tackles and an interception. There's a reason for Kill's concern: Boddy-Calhoun tore an ACL in 2013. Stay tuned.

"His lack of height and unpolished ball skills are a concern," Pauline wrote. The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Boddy-Calhoun collected 51 tackles, 2 TFL, nine breakups and five interceptions in 10 starts last year. Pauline previously gave him a Rd. 3 grade.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports that NFL scouts grade Minnesota CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun above teammate CB Eric Murray, but he has that order flipped.

"Both have next level ball skills but I prefer Murray’s size/speed advantage as well as his ability to make plays with his back to the ball," he wrote. Despite that assertion, Pauline gives both Golden Gopher cover aces identical Rd. 3 grades heading into the year.
