Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun returned an interception for a touchdown in Saturday's 31-21 loss against Wisconsin.

Entering the day 5-6, the Gophers' playing-for-a-bowl-berth afternoon kicked off in style with Boddy-Calhoun picking off Joel Stave and returning it 16 yards to the house early in the first quarter. Unfortunately, Minnesota's offense flat refused do its part. The Badgers outscored the Gophers 31-7 from that point until midway through the fourth, when Minnesota cut the deficit to 10 with a touchdown. Boddy-Calhoun's college career is now over. The 5-foot-11, 188-pounder was given a Rd. 3 grade by TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline before the season.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun (knee) will return Saturday against Nebraska.

Boddy-Calhoun injured his knee last month against Ohio and has been out since. Nebraska has a surprisingly frisky pass offense, so the Golden Gophers will welcome back the Day 2 prospect with open arms.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Purdue.

The Gophers' roster is decimated. Starting offensive linemen Josh Campion and Brian Bobek didn't even make the trip, DL Scott Ekpe and Gaelin Elmore are out, as is DB Damarius Travis. RB Rodney Smith is warming up and hopes to give it a go, though he's been listed as doubtful. The Gophers are narrow road favorites.

Minnesota DC Tracy Claeys said redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun (knee) isn't yet ready to return.

Boddy-Calhoun missed Saturday's loss to Northwestern. Barring a big improvement in the next few days, it appears he'll also miss this weekend's game at Purdue. The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Boddy-Calhoun came into the season with a Day 2 draft grade.

Minnesota HC Jerry Kill announced redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun (knee) is "real questionable" for Saturday's Northwestern game.

"Doesn't sound good for this week," added beat writer Joe Christensen. Fortunately, Boddy-Calhoun will not need surgery on his injured knee. Boddy-Calhoun is crucial to Minnesota's strong defense, though his absence may not be felt as acutely this weekend because Northwestern doesn't throw the ball effectively. The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Boddy-Calhoun collected 51 tackles, 2 TFL, nine breakups and five interceptions last year.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun will not need surgery on his injured knee and is questionable to play against Northwestern.

Knee injuries, followed by MRIs, are always scary, but the news is positive in this case. Boddy-Calhoun previously tore an ACL in 2013, but has responded remarkably well and is playing at a high level. Minnesota has dealt with a number of injuries this season and face a difficult Northwestern team this weekend.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun injured his knee in Saturday's 27-24 victory over Ohio and will soon undergo an MRI.

The Gophers are seriously banged up, with at least 13 players on the two-deep injured or playing hurt. "Briean's the one I'm concerned about," coach Jerry Kill said Sunday. Boddy-Calhoun currently carries a Day 2 draft grade. He has 21 tackles and an interception. There's a reason for Kill's concern: Boddy-Calhoun tore an ACL in 2013. Stay tuned.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun had an interception in Saturday's overtime win against Colorado State.

Minnesota's secondary completely shut down the Rams' aerial attack. It was a nice bounceback for Boddy-Calhoun, who struggled against TCU in Week 1. Of course, All-American receiver Rashard Higgins missed this game with an injury. The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Boddy-Calhoun collected 51 tackles, 2 TFL, nine breakups and five interceptions last year.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun "gave up a lot of underneath receptions and seemed to be playing back on his heels" in last Thursday's loss to TCU, writes TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.

"His lack of height and unpolished ball skills are a concern," Pauline wrote. The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Boddy-Calhoun collected 51 tackles, 2 TFL, nine breakups and five interceptions in 10 starts last year. Pauline previously gave him a Rd. 3 grade.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports that NFL scouts grade Minnesota CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun above teammate CB Eric Murray, but he has that order flipped.

"Both have next level ball skills but I prefer Murray’s size/speed advantage as well as his ability to make plays with his back to the ball," he wrote. Despite that assertion, Pauline gives both Golden Gopher cover aces identical Rd. 3 grades heading into the year.

Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun is "willing to throw his body into ball carriers to stop them in their tracks, making him an interesting nickel prospect (which is basically a starting position in the NFL nowadays)," notes NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter.

"The Gophers have two of the top corners in the country with Eric Murray and Boddy-Calhoun (5-11, 188), a junior college transfer who was an all-conference selection by both league media (first team) and coaches (second team)," Reuter wrote. "He picked off five passes and broke up nine others using an innate ability to close on the ball in 2014." The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Boddy-Calhoun collected 51 tackles, 2 TFL, nine breakups and five interceptions in 10 starts last year.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler notes that Minnesota redshirt senior CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun "is well-liked among scouts and might end up being the higher draft pick" between him and CB Eric Murray.

"He does a nice job in his transition with quick feet and smooth hips to play sticky coverage on the outside, but his reliability as a tackler needs improvement with his lack of size and muscle showing up often in run support. Although he's not as well-known as (Eric) Murray, Boddy-Calhoun is well-liked among scouts and might end up being the higher draft pick," Brugler writes. The former JUCO transfer, recorded 51 tackles, with 2.0 TFLs, nine pass breakups, and five interceptions in 10 starts last year. The Minnesota prospect has already earned his degree in elementary education and was named a co-captain for the 2015 season.

Sports on Earth's Matt Brown says Minnesota has one of the best cornerback combinations in the nation.

Between Eric Murray and Briean Boddy-Calhoun -- whom Brown ranks as the No. 17 and 16 defensive backs in the country, respectively -- the Gophers are going to be exceedingly difficult to throw on this year. "Murray is a 6-foot, 196-pound senior who had seven pass breakups and 69 tackles last year, showing off a physical, aggressive style," Brown wrote. "Boddy-Calhoun is a 5-foot-11, 188-pound senior who transferred from the juco ranks in 2012. They're cornerstones of a defense that allowed 6.2 yards per pass attempt in 2014." Boddy-Calhoun posted five interceptions, nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles and 51 tackles last year.
