Rotoworld's Josh Norris ranks Florida CB Vernon Hargreaves as the No. 17 overall draft prospect.
"2014 was far better for Hargreaves than 2015. Still, I don’t think talent just disappeared," Norris wrote. "The corner can be aggressive at the catch point, closing on receivers after the catch when in off coverage and when playing the run. He allowed separation on deep routes this season. When he’s on, Hargreaves plays with intensity and fights for positioning to beat receivers to their point." The 5-foot-11, 185-pound is a potential Top-10 selection. It's worth noting that TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reported over the summer that "most scouts feel" Hargreaves is "significantly overrated." Jan 15 - 6:31 PM

ESPN's Joe Schad reports that Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III has filed the paperwork that would allow him to enter the 2016 NFL Draft.

Hargreaves hasn't come out with an official declaration yet, but expect that to follow soon. This isn't a huge surprise. In early December, he indicated to reporters that he was "most likely" going to enter this spring's pool of draft-eligible players. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior recorded 33 tackles (one for loss) while intercepting four passes during the 2015 campaign. He'll exit his college career with 10 interceptions. It's very possible that he'll be the first corner to hear his name called in the spring, unless FSU's Jalen Ramsey jumps him. ESPN's Todd McShay has Ramsey has his No. 1 corner prospect, with Hargreaves nipping at his heels.

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III told reporters he will most likely declare for the 2016 NFL Draft.

"We’ve been talking about it. It’s not something we’ve been trying to hide. I most likely am going to declare for the NFL and see where it goes from there," Hargreaves said. It would be a shock if Hargreaves decides to stay in school. The corner will compete for the top defensive back selection and faced a number of talented receivers over the years, which will give evaluators quality tape.

Reps from seven NFL teams will scout Saturday's Ole Miss at Florida game.

Employees of the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be at The Swamp. Both teams have a bunch of NFL prospects. On the Ole Miss side, evaluators will take a close look at WR Laquon Treadwell, DL Robert Nkemdiche and TE Evan Engram. Florida offers CB Vernon Hargreaves, LB Antonio Morrison and DE Jonathan Bullard. "Although Treadwell's matchup with Hargreaves is the battle NFL scouts might most want to see, Hargreaves will probably find himself matched with some of the Rebels' other receivers at times," notes NFL Media. "And this season, a couple of them are proving to be equally dangerous."

ESPN's Todd McShay ranks Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves as the No. 3 overall prospect.

Some others are beginning to back off Hargreaves a bit -- CBS Sports' Rob Rang recently criticized his tackling and TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reported last month that "most scouts feel" Hargreaves is "significantly overrated" -- but McShay remains sky-high on the Gators' cover man. "He lacks ideal size (5-foot-11, 199 pounds), but he has the instincts, aggressiveness and elite cover skills to develop into a good outside starting cornerback in the NFL," McShay wrote. "More physical than his frame might indicate, Hargreaves does a good job in press-man coverage, consistently redirecting wide receivers." Hargreaves has two interceptions in three games.

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves suffered a back injury in Saturday's win against Tennessee and struggled with his tackling throughout.

Hargreaves remained in the game after being give a topical muscle relaxer. Still, it was far from his best effort. "Hargreaves has struggled with undisciplined tackling previously in his career, aggressively rushing upfield to deliver big hits but too often failing to close both arms around opponents," wrote CBS Sports' Rob Rang. "Hargreaves has the fluidity, confidence and ball-skills scouts are looking for at the position but to earn a possible top 10 pick - as projected - he'll need to prove more consistent as an open-field tackler." Not everyone agrees on the projection. TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reported last month that "most scouts feel" Hargreaves is "significantly overrated."

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III will not play against ECU due to a knee injury.

The injury apparently occurred during Thursday's practice and is being called a "tweaked knee." Obviously this is the first time the news has been released and hopefully more news emerges. Hargreaves is one of the top players in the country regardless of position. The corner was being used more on offense this season as well as punt returns.

Florida head coach Jim McElwain said the school has packages on offense for junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III.

McElwain would not elaborate but praised Hargreaves' work ethic during practice, saying the star corner is not a prima donna. We already knew VHIII was returning punts this season, but his touches could expand on offense. He is a thrill to watch on the field.

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III compensates for a lack of size with "instincts and effortless fluidity in moving with receivers," according to ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr.

"Of course, he's not small, at 5-11 and about 195 pounds; he just lacks a margin for error compared to some," said Kiper, who ranked the standout junior at No. 5 on his first Big Board of the season. He went on to call Hargreaves the "best pure cover corner in the draft," one who has the chops to hang with receivers despite his size. As NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter noted in mid-August, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound corner "does not back down against larger receivers." Through 24 games, he's logged six interceptions and 24 pass breakups.

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III is "ultra-competitive and explosive," according to NFL Media draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah.

In NFL.com's countdown of the Top-20 players in college football, Hargreaves checked in at No. 7. The NFL.com team noted that not only does the 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior offer the necessary athleticism and tenaciousness to play corner at the next level, he's also, in the words of draft expert Chase Goodbread, "a high-character leader as well. Quarterbacks throw away from him, the ultimate compliment for a cornerback." There are questions about Hargreave's size, but he's never shown that to be an issue at the college level and has six interceptions and 24 pass breakups through 24 games.

CBS Sports' Rob Rang believes Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III "combines quickness, balance and route-recognition to excel in coverage."

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Hargreaves III has recorded six interceptions and 24 pass breakups in just 24 career games with the Gators. Rang adds that the Florida prospect has "rare physicality and open-field tackling ability to be just as effective in run support and when blitzing off the corner." Hargreaves III could earn top 10 consideration in the draft, with another solid season under his belt.
