Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III is "ultra-competitive and explosive," according to NFL Media draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah.
In NFL.com's countdown of the Top-20 players in college football, Hargreaves checked in at No. 7. The NFL.com team noted that not only does the 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior offer the necessary athleticism and tenaciousness to play corner at the next level, he's also, in the words of draft expert Chase Goodbread, "a high-character leader as well. Quarterbacks throw away from him, the ultimate compliment for a cornerback." There are questions about Hargreave's size, but he's never shown that to be an issue at the college level and has six interceptions and 24 pass breakups through 24 games. Sep 2 - 3:59 PM

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III "does not back down against larger receivers, winning hand play downfield, going up high on jump balls, and dislodging the ball whenever possible," notes NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter.

"Just put him on an island and watch him go to work," Reuter wrote. Reuter pegs Hargreaves as the No. 5 junior draft prospect. Hargreaves (5-foot-11, 195 pounds) has recorded six interceptions and 24 pass breakups in just 24 career games. Many call him a first-rounder waiting to happen, but it's worth noting that TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline recently reported that "most scouts feel" Hargreaves III is "significantly overrated."

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves will serve as the school's punt returner this season.

Hargreaves is adding to his NFL evaluation. The top corner in the country could show off enough return skills for an NFL team to feel more comfortable swapping depth at the end of their active roster rather than always choosing a designated returner. Brandon Powell will return kickoffs.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports that "most scouts feel" Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III is "significantly overrated."

Pauline gave him a lowly third-round ground, an unheard of projection (most say Round 1), but he's apparently not alone. "Hargreaves is not mentioned on a number of underclassmen lists teams have assembled," he wrote. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Hargreaves has collected six interceptions and 24 pass breakups in just 24 career games and is considered one of the sport's most promising cover aces. The only thing he is not is big, and that will hurt his evaluation a bit in a league obsessed with giant receivers.

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III is the "best pure cover corner in college football," believes Sports on Earth's Matt Brown.

"Hargreaves has everything but size, and he plays bigger than his size anyway," Brown wrote. "He's broken up 24 passes and intercepted six in two years, and he probably won't put up big numbers this year because nobody will bother throwing his way. He's quick, instinctive and technically sound, and he's also a sure tackler when coming up in run support. Nobody is going to move the ball on him this year." He grades Hargreaves as the No. 6 college football player in the land. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Hargreaves led the SEC with 13 pass breakups last year and has logged six interceptions and 24 pass breakups in just 24 career games.
Aug 10 - 12:35 AM

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III will be used as a returner this season.

Head coach Jim McElwain acknowledged return duties would help Hargreaves's #brand, which we appreciate. Already considered one of, if not the best, corner in college football, Hargreaves could add versatility to his repertoire, which NFL teams would fawn over.

NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter believes Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III is an early favorite to earn All-American honors in 2015.

"Having already earned All-America recognition in his first two seasons, intercepting six passes and breaking up 24 others, it's a no-brainer to include Hargreaves on this list. He does not back down against larger receivers (he's listed at 5-foot-11, 192 pounds), winning hand play downfield, going up high on jump balls, and dislodging the ball whenever possible," Reuter wrote. The Gators prospect led the SEC with 13 pass breakups in 2014 and has recorded six interceptions and 24 pass breakups in just 24 career games.

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III firmly stated that he often thinks about jumping to the NFL.

"All the time ... all the time," Hargreaves said. Of course, VGIII has never had the opportunity. He will after this season for the first time as a third-year junior. Hargreaves envisions a long tenure at the next level. "To play in the league for 10-plus years, that's probably my main goal," Hargreaves said. "And then hopefully try to get to a Super Bowl." The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Hargreaves led the SEC with 13 pass breakups last year and has logged six interceptions and 24 pass breakups in just 24 career games. "I think I'm completely different than most corners, but my favorite corner is Brent Grimes, just because of how he plays," Hargreaves said. "His tenacity, and he can do anything. He can press, he can play off, he's fast, and he makes plays and gets the ball out."

ESPN's Mel Kiper ranks Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III as the best underclassmen draft prospect in the nation.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound prospect has logged six interceptions and 24 pass breakups in just 24 career games. NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein ranks Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III as the No. 1 defensive back to watch in College Football.

"He plays with advanced ball skills and will look to bait and rob throws in the deep middle (three interceptions last season). Hargreaves can keep up with speed receivers and has the explosiveness to leap and disrupt 50/50 balls," Zierlein wrote. The Florida prospect posted 50 total tackles, leading the Gators and the SEC, with 13 pass breakups last season. Hargreaves III could solidify his potential first-round draft stock with another impressive season.

May 29 - 11:37 AM

Florida junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III "is a technically sound corner who rarely gets beaten over the top thanks to his speed and agility to turn and run and wideouts," notes SB Nation's Dan Kadar.

"The knock on him is that he's not the biggest, but he's rates high in every other area," Kadar wrote. The analyst believes Hargreaves is the only player right now who could realistically enter into a debate with Ohio State junior defensive end Joey Bosa over who should be the top draft prospect entering the season. Hargreaves is the best corner in the land.
