Florida sophomore CB Vernon Hargreaves III was "the top cornerback in college football this year, and shares similar qualities to Darrelle Revis," wrote Scout Inc.'s Steve Muench and Kevin Weidl.
Hargreaves ranks No. 3 on the pair's non-draft eligible rankings. "He is a smooth athlete who possesses adequate size and shows great balance to mirror receivers when locked up in man coverage," they wrote. "The sophomore also has outstanding instincts and anticipation that allow him to be a playmaker (24 pass breakups and 5 interceptions in his career). While he can continue to clean up his technique as a tackler, he is willing and aggressive in run support." NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah compares Hargreaves to Joe Haden. Mr. Hargreaves will be mighty popular come this time next year. Dec 18 - 2:45 PM

Florida sophomore CB Vernon Hargreaves III had an interception in Saturday's 10-9 win against Tennessee.

The Gators and Vols played one of the ugliest games you'll ever see in front of 102,455 unfortunate souls at Neyland Stadium. The contest featured five interceptions, one touchdown total and a benched quarterback (Jeff Driskel). Because of the defense led by Hargreaves, Florida, trailing 9-0 in the fourth quarter, was able to keep the game close until backup Treon Harris led the squad to 10 points and the win. NFL.com ranked Hargreaves III as the No. 17 overall player in college football prior to the year. Daniel Jeremiah compares him to Joe Haden. The true sophomore is not yet draft-eligible.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler wrote last week that Hargreaves III "might be the best cornerback in college football." NFL.com ranked Hargreaves III as the No. 17 overall player in college football prior to the year. Daniel Jeremiah compares him to Joe Haden. The true sophomore is not yet draft-eligible.

Florida sophomore CB Vernon Hargreaves III "might be the best cornerback in college football," according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.

The true sophomore is not yet draft-eligible. "It will be a treat to watch him [on Saturday] against [Alabama's Amari] Cooper," Brugler wrote. Cooper, of course, is one of college football's best wideouts and ranks second amongst FBS WRs with 460 receiving yards. NFL.com ranked Hargreaves III as the No. 17 overall player in college football prior to the year. Daniel Jeremiah compares him to Joe Haden.

Florida sophomore CB Vernon Hargreaves III was ranked by NFL.com as the No. 17 overall player in college football.

"He was the most impressive cornerback in college football last season. He reminds me of former Gator Joe Haden," analyst Daniel Jeremiah said. Hargreaves III walked onto campus last summer with two NFL prospects at cornerback ahead of him -- Loucheiz Purifoy and Marcus Roberson -- on the depth chart. No matter. Hargreaves earned a starting job anyway, leading the Gators in interceptions (three) and pass breakups (11), and ranking seventh with 38 tackles. "Florida has put a lot of good defensive backs in the NFL of late, but this guy could end up in a class by himself. As he becomes stronger, he is going to be able to shut down one side of the field by himself," Mike Huguenin said. Hargreaves III suffered a bone bruise to his ankle or left knee in practice last week (HC Will Muschamp was vague), but the injury isn't considered serious.

After leaving Thursday's practice on a cart, Florida sophomore CB Vernon Hargreaves III only has a bone bruise, according to HC Will Muschamp.

Reporters wish-washed between the injury being to Hargreaves' ankle or left knee, saying the corner looked dejected after removing his pads. Muschamp does not necessarily have to tell the truth about injuries, and Dominique Easley's ACL tear last year comes to mind, but Hargreaves is Florida's best player so it might not be wise to not tell the truth. The sophomore might be the top corner in the country.

Scouts Inc. ranks Florida freshman CB Vernon Hargreaves III as the No. 2 underclassman in college football.

"Hargreaves has the potential to quickly develop into the best cornerback in the country," the trio of Todd McShay, Kevin Weidl, and Steve Muench write. "He possesses exceptional man-to-man coverage skills. He has excellent flexibility, which allows him to transition quickly out of breaks without losing balance, and flashes the top-end speed to run with receivers downfield." Florida State redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston tops the list. Hargreaves should only receive more playing time next year with multiple Gator corners likely declaring for the draft.

Florida freshman CB Vernon Hargreaves III has registered three interceptions in four games this season.

He also has four passes defensed, bringing his total to seven. The Gators already had a talented group at corner with Loucheiz Purifoy, Jalyen Watkins, and Marcus Roberson, but Hargreaves III has already earned a full time role. He is already a stud.
