Former West Virginia QB Ford Childress will attempt to walk on at Fresno State.
Childress received interest from Texas and Texas A&M, but ultimately decided to cast his lost with FSU head coach Tim DeRuyter and the Bulldogs. Childress, who didn't play last year after being suspended for a violation of team rules chance, has a chance to win the starting QB job immediately. West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said redshirt freshman QB Ford Childress has been cleared to play.

He'll only play "if needed" this weekend at Kansas. Childress suffered a torn muscle in his chest back in September against Maryland. He's currently third on the depth chart.

West Virginia redshirt freshman QB Ford Childress suffered a torn muscle in his chest and will be out indefinitely.

Childress was injured against Maryland and will give way to senior transfer Clint Trickett. The redshirt freshman did not open the season as the starter but was able to earn the title a few weeks into the season. Head coach Dana Holgorsen seemed open to the idea of Childress returning this season.

West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen announced the school will start redshirt freshman Ford Childress at QB moving forward.

"We just gave him 100 percent of the reps [in practice]," Holgorsen told reporters. In his first start Childress completed 25 of 41 attempts for 359 yards and three touchdowns against Georgia State. He also threw an interception and was sacked twice.

West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen has named redshirt freshman Ford Childress the school's starting QB.

Childress' first start of his career will come against Georgia State. "It's his time," Holgorsen said on Thursday night. "It's his job and we're going to see what he can do." Junior Paul Millard claimed the starting role out of camp but failed to impress over the last two weeks. Childress reportedly took 80 percent of the practice reps on Thursday.
