South Carolina CB Victor Hampton, along with teammate Kelsey Quarles, was cleared of wrongdoing by the NYPD for a nightclub brawl earlier this month.
Obviously this is great news for both Gamecocks, but it may have saved Hampton's draft status in particular. Quarles is a Day 2 prospect who wasn't likely to slide out of the draft barring serious legal trouble, while Hampton is a Day 3 prospect who already has drawn character questions from the NFL. NFL.com draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki wrote that "character concerns will cloud [Hampton's] draft status and have already knocked him off some draft boards." Apr 30 - 8:56 PM

TMZ is reporting that South Carolina CB Victor Hampton and DT Kelcy Quarles are wanted by the New York City Police Department for questioning in connection to an altercation at a New York nightclub.

The incident in question took place at the Greenhouse nightclub on April 11. Details are hazy at this time, but a fight reportedly broke out in the VIP section in which three men attacked a club promoter and caused "extensive facial injuries." The NYPD told TMZ that the investigation is ongoing, and that no arrests have been made. Both Hampton and Quarles are Day 2 prospects.

South Carolina CB Victor Hampton said scouts have told him he will be drafted on the second day of the draft.

In other words, the second or third round. Hampton is one of the more physical edge defenders in this class, but NFL Media draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki noted his bust potential last week, citing Hampton's off-field problems. "Has had issues with anger management, emotional outbursts and team suspensions," said Nawrocki. "Will be targeted for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties given tendency to talk and taunt. ... Size and physicality will appeal to teams, though character concerns will cloud his draft status and could knock him off some draft boards." We see Hampton being called near the beginning of the draft's third day, perhaps in the fourth round. If a team dismisses his character concerns, he'd have a chance at beating that projection.

NFL Media draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki believes that South Carolina CB Victor Hampton will "require close monitoring and has bust potential."

Hampton's off-field issues date all the back to high school, a period where the talented cover man attended four different schools. "Has had issues with anger management, emotional outbursts and team suspensions," wrote Nawrocki. "Will be targeted for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties given tendency to talk and taunt. ... Size and physicality will appeal to teams, though character concerns will cloud his draft status and could knock him off some draft boards." Hampton is one of the more physical edge defenders in this class. We expect him to draw mid-round consideration.

South Carolina junior CB Victor Hampton never requested an evaluation from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.

"My decision is made," Hampton added. This means the corner will absolutely enter the draft and did not care about a possible projection. The junior showed up in the school's bowl win over Wisconsin and is one of the more physical edge defenders in this class.

South Carolina junior CB Victor Hampton will enter the 2014 NFL Draft.

Saturday's was South Carolina's senior day, but juniors Kelcy Quarles, Jadeveon Clowney and Hampton were also honored. While it isn't set in stone since paperwork cannot be finalized until January, Hampton said he was "pretty much" gone. We expect him to draw mid-round consideration.

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier suggested junior CB Victor Hampton could decide to declare for May's NFL Draft.

"It's up to them," Spurrier said. Defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles has already stated his intentions of leaving after the season, and obviously the team will lose Jadeveon Clowney to the draft. Hampton will likely be a mid- to late-round selection.

South Carolina junior CB Victor Hampton has been reinstated as the team's punt returner.

Hampton was nearly knocked out in the opener against North Carolina due to his hyper-aggressive running style, and Steve Spurrier replaced him with Bruce Ellington. The Ol' Ball Coach has decided to reverse that decision and move Ellington solely to kickoff returns. "I'm an aggressive guy, but there's a difference between being aggressive and being smart," Hampton said. "That was my first time really doing punt return in a game, the whole game, so it was a good game experience for me."
