South Carolina junior WR Shaq Roland plans to turn pro, according to Gamecocks HC Steve Spurrier.
"Shaq Roland is not with the team anymore. I think he's elected to drop out of school and go pro. That was his choice, and we wish him the best," Spurrier said. Roland had plenty of red flags prior to Tuesday, and he certainly didn't help his cause by abandoning South Carolina leading up to its meeting with Miami in the Independence Bowl. Roland caught 26 passes for 256 yards this year. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder was maligned for inconsistent effort, was suspended for the Kentucky game for missing team meetings, and his on-field issues included quitting on routes. He was also suspended for three games last season. It'll be an uphill battle to get drafted. Tue, Dec 23, 2014 09:26:00 PM

247sports.com's John Whittle reports that South Carolina junior WR Shaq Roland has left the program.

Back in October, Roland missed a team meeting and walkthrough and was not allowed to travel with the team to Kentucky. It's possible that Roland may be headed for the NFL following this season. The South Carolina prospect still has one more year of eligibility left, and could decide to transfer down a level and play immediately if he doesn’t declare for the Draft. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Roland played 10 games this year, finishing with 26 receptions for 356 yards and four touchdown grabs. On his career at South Carolina, Roland finishes with 56 catches for 891 yards and 10 touchdowns.

South Carolina junior WR Shaq Roland will not play Saturday against Kentucky after missing the team flight to Lexington.

That is very difficult to do. The Gamecocks are 3-2 after losing to Texas A&M in the opener and Missouri last week. Roland has been limited to 15 catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns this season. Guard A.J. Cann seems to be the only Gamecock playing well this year.

South Carolina sophomore WR Shaq Roland's suspension will carry on through the next two games.

No reason was given for the punishment. Roland did not travel with the team for their last game against UCF, so this will ultimately be a three game suspension. Roland acts as the team's downfield threat, which might be used more often is Dylan Thompson sees time as the starting quarterback.

South Carolina sophomore WR Shaq Roland is not listed on the school's depth chart for the game against Kentucky.

Roland was suspended for last week's contest against UCF due to an unspecified violation of school policy. The sophomore scored a long touchdown in the season opener, but looks to be in Steve Spurrier's doghouse now.
