Rams signed USC RB Justin Davis.
Davis (6’1/208) was a committee back for most of his college career, graduating with a 461-2,465-19 (5.35 YPC) rushing line and 46 receptions. Plagued by recurring ankle woes from his freshman season on, Davis showed limited ability to beat first contact and struggled in pass protection. PFF College charged Davis with ten QB pressures allowed on just 36 blocking snaps in 2016, easily the worst ratio in this year’s running back class. Davis was also prone to drops and fumbles at USC. Ultimately, Davis is a replacement-level back who could conceivably compile stats if given an extended opportunity, but seems unlikely to get one. Wed, May 3, 2017 02:24:00 PM

Pro Football Focus compared USC RB Justin Davis to Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford.

"Like Langford, he fits well in a zone-heavy scheme, has good speed, and will make the right reads and cuts to get what the offensive line provides," PFF notes, adding that "[n]either are players that are going to create their own yardage often behind poor blocking." The outlet does like the 6-foot-1, 208-pounder's open-field wiggle more than that of Langford. He is a likely Day 3 selection come the draft.

An NFC West regional scout stamped a fifth-round grade on USC RB Justin Davis.

"They didn't ask much of him as a pass-catcher in that offense but I think he can do it," the scout said. "He can play heavier than he is right now so he carries third running back value. He also returned kicks last year so that helps him too." A high ankle sprain ended up wrecking Davis' 2016 season and also cost him a Shrine Game appearance. "Davis has decent vision and elusiveness once he gets up to the second level, but he lacks early creativity and typically gets what is blocked for him on the first level,"'s Lance Zierlein chimed in. "He could get drafted on the third day but appears to be a garden-variety, replaceable runner."

USC RB Justin Davis will not play in the East-West Shrine Game due to an ankle injury.

Tip of the cap to Rotoworld's Josh Norris on the specific injury. Norris hears that Davis is nursing an ankle tweak sustained in USC's epic Rose Bowl Game win over Penn State at the beginning of January. Beyond the Rose Bowl Game, ankle concerns were a consistent nagging issue for Davis throughout past season. He missed three games due to a high ankle sprain suffered in early October. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline views Davis as a potential sixth-round pick in this spring's draft.

USC senior RB Justin Davis (ankle) is expected to play against Washington on Saturday.

A high ankle sprain has kept Davis sidelined since October 8. He was able to participate in practice this week, though, and looks like he should be good to go for Saturday's tough match-up with the Huskies. Ronald Jones has been running fantastically in Davis' absence, so it isn't quite clear yet how carries might be divvied out, here.

USC senior RB Justin Davis remains sidelined and in a walking boot while dealing with a high ankle sprain.

Head coach Clay Helton suggested Davis might return to the field in a couple of days. The Trojans are off this weekend, so there is no rush for Davis to return to the field this week. USC, at 4-3, faces Cal next.

USC senior RB Justin Davis (ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Arizona.

No huge surprise here. Over the course of the practice week, it had become clear that Davis just isn't healthy enough to play on Saturday. He is nursing a high right ankle sprain suffered against Colorado last weekend. Said HC Clay Helton, "We're going to stick with our M.O. of knowing that our run sets up the pass and be a balanced offense. We have a lot of confidence in the three kids." The "three kids" who Helton is referring to are sophomores Ronald Jones, Aca'Cedric Ware and Dominic Davis. Jones is the name to play in terms of fantasy, here.

USC HC Clay Helton indicated that senior RB Justin Davis (ankle) is unlikely to be able to play in Saturday's showdown with Arizona.

Davis injured his right ankle in the second half of Saturday's win over Colorado. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior had rushed for 467 yards (6.3 YPC) and two touchdowns in five-plus games prior to going down injured. Ronald Jones will start in Davis' place on Saturday barring an unexpected improvement in health.

USC senior RB Justin Davis was sidelined in the second half of Saturday's win over Colorado due to a right ankle injury.

Davis said after the game that he "heard a crunch." That sounds ominous enough, though he added, "I'll be coming back." He was on crutches and booted up after the game. It isn't known at this juncture when the 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior will be able to return to action. USC hits the road for a showdown with Arizona next Saturday.

USC senior RB Justin Davis rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries in Friday's 31-27 loss to Utah.

Davis entered Friday's contest having rushed for just 135 yards. He nearly doubled up on his total in this one game alone. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior is coming off a 2015 season in which he rushed for 902 yards and seven touchdowns. Ronald Jones -- Davis' main competition for work -- managed just 15 yards on eight carries in Friday's loss.

USC junior RB Justin Davis rushed for 99 yards on 17 carries in Saturday's 41-22 loss to Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

The Trojans scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in Saturday's loss, but neither came courtesy of Davis (Cody Kessler and Ronald Jones notched those). For his part, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior averaged 5.8 YPC with a long run of 25 yards. Davis has rushed for 875 yards and five touchdowns through USC's 13 pre-bowl contests.

USC junior RB Justin Davis rushed for 141 yards on 16 carries in Saturday's 48-28 loss to Oregon.

Davis received 16 carries to Ronald Jones' 14, but he far outpaced him. Jones rumbled his way to 57 yards and a score, compared to Davis' 141 on the ground. This was the 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior's first game with at least 100 yards rushing this season. He's rushed for 311 yards in his last three games. Both Davis and Jones are somewhat handicapped by the time share, but Davis has been the more productive back of late.

USC junior RB Justin Davis rushed for 85 yards on 14 carries in Friday's 27-24 win over Colorado.

Davis still has yet to crack 100 yards rushing in any single game this season, but he's now posted back-to-back efforts of 85 yards on the ground. His long run against Colorado on Friday was 29 yards and he averaged a healthy 6.1 YPC in the win. Overall, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior's rushed for 505 yards and five touchdowns on 99 carries.

USC junior RB Justin Davis "could take a shot at the NFL if he feels he’s ready and has his degree," believes ESPN's Greg Katz.

"It all depends on what kind of season Davis has," Katz wrote. Indeed, Davis has looked good in limited action playing behind Buck Allen. If he can outplay Tre Madden and shine as a feature back, Davis might be inclined to opt into the draft. "He has to prove that he is physical enough, show he’s not injury prone, and has the speed to take it to the house," Katz wrote. "No question about his work ethic and character."

USC freshman RB Justin Davis will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing ankle surgery.

The Trojans are lucky to have Silas Redd back from injury, but Tree Madden has also missed time this season. Davis had rushed for 361 yards and six touchdowns on 53 carries. The school faces Utah on Saturday, so expect to see Red handle the bulk of the carries.
