Minnesota senior WR Derrick Engel has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
The injury, sustained in Sunday's practice while preparing for Saturday's huge tilt against Wisconsin, marks a terribly disappointing end to Engel's season and collegiate career. Engel, quarterback Philip Nelson's favorite target, led the team with 25 receptions for 401 yards and five touchdowns. Fri, Nov 22, 2013 05:14:00 PM

Minnesota senior WR Derrick Engel suffered a knee injury in Tuesday's practice and his status for Saturday's game against Wisconsin isn't yet known.

Head coach Jerry Kill hasn't yet announced Engel's diagnosis, but it doesn't sound good. "We'll know more as the process goes with his doctor," Kill said. "At this point in time, he'll get an MRI and we'll know more about it as we go. There's speculation one way or the other, but we'll see." The speculation refers to a possible ACL tear. "Until I know 100-percent sure, I can't comment," Kill said. "When I do know, I will."
