Before that, he coached Ball State to 33-29 record and took the Cardinals to two bowl games. He also served as a head coach at Elon and Lehigh, and has three playoff appearances at the FCS level. Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports reports that Ball State head coach Pete Lembo will take an assistant coaching job with Maryland.

You don't often see FBS head coaches leave for assistant jobs. It's a fascinating gamble by Lembo, who is 112-65 as a college head coach. The 45-year-old led the Cardinals to a 10-3 record in 2013 but the school regressed the past two seasons to a combined 8-16. Reportedly frustrated over the lack of resources he was being given, he'll join D.J. Durkin's staff, which is already looking like one of college football's best. Durkin already reeled in former FBS head coaches Mike London and Scott Shafer to take assistant gigs on the Terps staff. We expect Maryland to be a force in East Coast recruiting over the next few years.
