ESPN's Edward Aschoff reports that Mississippi State DC Todd Grantham will join Florida HC Dan Mullen's staff at the same post.

Gators DC Randy Shannon -- who served as interim head coach after the team fired Jim McElwain -- was not retained after Mullen was hired as head coach over the weekend. Grantham will follow Mullen to Gainesville. He was initially hired by Mississippi State away from Louisville to serve as defensive coordinator last winter. Under his watch during the current season, the Bulldogs made noticeable strides defensively, moving from 110th in total yards allowed in 2016 all the way up to 10th. Per Aschoff, Grantham has been inked to an initial three-year contract with Florida.

Mississippi State hired Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham to the same post.

Grantham is a 3-4 guy who was Louisville's defensive coordinator for the past three seasons. Prior to that, he was Georgia's defensive coordinator from 2010-13. Grantham's three units at Louisville all were top-20 nationally in total defense. "Todd has proven to be one of the best defensive coordinators in the country this decade," Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen said in a statement. "He understands what it takes to build a physical and aggressive defense at the highest of levels."

An anonymous ACC coach believes Louisville's defensive can be exploited with tempo due to holes in defensive coordinator Todd Grantham's ideology.

"Defensively, Todd Grantham is a 3-4 guy and his problem is this: Schematically, he outthinks his players, and if you use tempo against them, you can really cause problems because they struggle to line up right and they’ll bust coverage, bust blitz," the coach said. "I think he just does too much. He comes from that pro background, but it’s not what you know, it’s what the players understand." The Cardinals ranked sixth nationally in total defense in 2014 and 18th last year. Tempo is one way to neutralize superior talent, so in that regard it makes sense for many offenses to go that route against the Cardinals, but this coach is being overly simplistic by labeling Grantham's credo fatally flawed and being downright dismissive by implying that college students can't memorize complex concepts. Louisville may have a top-10 defense this fall.

Louisville announced defensive coordinator Todd Grantham will remain at the school.'s Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the day Wednesday that the Raiders offered Grantham a two-year deal to become Jack Del Rio's new DC. "My family loves it in Louisville, and I think we are establishing something special here with Bobby Petrino and our staff," said Grantham. Grantham is one year into a four-year pact that pays him nearly $1 million annually. The Cardinals ranked sixth nationally in total defense in 2014.

The Raiders offered Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham a two-year deal to become their DC, reports's Ian Rapoport.

Though obviously interested in the post -- Grantham did interview for it -- he's not a slam dunk to accept just yet. "Louisville sources have cautioned me for days that he might not take it," reported FootballScoop, a respected source of coaching news. "We’ll see how it plays out." The 48-year-old Grantham has been a top-notch college DC at Georgia and Louisville since 2010, and he coached extensively in the NFL before that.

Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is interviewing for the same post with the Raiders, reports ESPN's Adam Caplan.

"Others also being considered for it as well," Caplan wrote, though NBC Washington's Dianna Marie Russini is reporting Grantham is the favorite for the job. Grantham would be an astute hire for new HC Jack Del Rio. He coordinated the Browns' defense from 2005-07 and also coached for the Cowboys (2008-2009), Texans (2002-2004) and Colts (1999-2001). The 48-year-old Grantham has been a top-notch college DC at both Georgia and Louisville since 2010.

Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has left the school to take the same position with Louisville.

Grantham will reportedly earn $1 million per season. Georgia head coach Mark Richt said in December that Grantham would remain on his staff, unless he took a job at another school. The latter happened, but Georgia fans might not be that upset. We think Grantham has misused plenty of talent that has graduated through Athens. He joins Bobby Petrino's staff with Louisville.

Georgia head coach Mark Richt said defensive coordinator Todd Grantham's job is safe, as long as he does not take a job with another school.

"I mean everybody's gotta do what they've gotta do, as far as if they have opportunities and all that kind of thing," Richt said. "But we've got some things we've certainly got to get better at... But the continuity is a good thing for Georgia." Grantham had a difficult job this season, losing nearly his entire defensive starting unit to the NFL. However, Georgia has misused a lot of their talent in recent years.
