Maryland redshirt senior RB Trey Edmunds underwent surgery on his broken right foot.
Edmunds rolled his right ankle in practice last Monday and the subsequent X-ray revealed a fracture. With the surgery now in the books, HC D.J. Durkin is holding out hope that the 6-foot-1, 221-pounder will be able to return to action before the close of the season. Just how realistic that proposition may be should clarify once Edmunds is further along in his rehab. He had managed 158 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries prior to his sidelining. This is a depth blow more than an out-and-out crippler. Ty Johnson will continue to see the bulk of work on the ground for the Terps moving forward. Oct 20 - 3:20 PM

Maryland RBs Trey Edmunds, Ty Johnson and Kenneth Goins are listed as co-starters for Maryland's Week 2 game against FIU.

The carries were pretty evenly divvied in the season opener against Howard, too. Unless you play in a Big 10-only league, it's hard to trust any of these guys for fantasy purposes.

College Football 24/7 writer Chase Goodbread noted that Maryland graduate RB Trey Edmunds "won't be handed the starting job."

The Terrapins are looking to replace Brandon Harris, who slid through the draft before landing with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent. Edmunds transferred over from Virginia Tech back in January. His biggest competition to start in 2016 is likely to be senior RB Wes Brown. Last season, Brown rushed for 317 yards (4.5 YPC) and three touchdowns while backing up Ross. Injuries have been somewhat problematic for the 6-foot-1, 221-pound Edmunds. With Virginia Tech, he has played in just 15 games over the past two seasons. A broken clavicle suffered in early October of 2014 knocked him out for the remainder of that campaign.

The Baltimore Sun reports Virginia Tech graduate RB Trey Edmunds will transfer to Maryland.

As a transfer, Edmunds is eligible to play immediately in 2016. "He graduated last semester and he said he wanted to move on and try something different," his father, Ferrell Edmunds, said. "I’m always supportive of him." Ferrell Edmunds played college football at Maryland. Edmunds led the Hokies with 675 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2013. In part because of injuries, Edmonds was limited to merely 282 yards and three touchdowns over the past two years.

Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore RB Trey Edmunds is expected to miss 6-8 weeks due to a broken clavicle.

The Hokies are cursed at running back this season. Freshman Marshawn Williams underwent X-rays for an ankle injury during the win over UNC, which was ultimately diagnosed as a sprained ankle. The team will likely turn to J.C. Coleman and Joel Caleb.

Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore RB Trey Edmunds has been medically cleared to participate with no restrictions in fall camp.

Edmunds suffered a broken tibia in his right leg in December. He's not back to 100-percent, but has been ramping up his physical activity in recent weeks. Edmunds led Virginia Tech with 675 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns last year, adding 155 receiving yards and two more scores.
