Syracuse HC Dino Babers compared his program to Game of Thrones hero Jon Snow.
"We're keeping the ice people out," Babers said at ACC Media Days. "All the guys down south are living it up and eating grapes." Cute, very cute, though who the "ice people" might be in this analogy is less certain. Babers is taking over a Syracuse squad that went a Theon Greyjoy-esque 4-8 (2-6 in-conference) during the 2015 season. He lit the field aflame with his offense at Bowling Green and his attempts to bring Syracuse back to national prominence should be fun to follow as the season unfolds. Jul 22 - 1:34 PM

Syracuse hired ESPN executive John Wildhack to serve as athletic director.

Wildhack graduated from Syracuse in 1980, after which he joined up with the Worldwide Leader. For the past two years, he has served as executive vice president for programming and production. In a statement, Syracuse Chancellor Kent Syverud said, "John is an entrepreneurial, outside-the-box leader who brings an unparalleled set of skills and experiences to the director of athletics position." The Orange were in need of a new athletic director after Mark Coyle vacated to take the same position at Minnesota earlier this offseason.

Syracuse will spend a portion of its fall camp at Fort Drum.

A trip to Fort Drum has been an annual tradition for the Orange since 2012, when former HC Doug Marrone started up the practice. Travel dates for August's trip are still being ironed out, but redshirt senior C Jason Emerich is already looking forward to the journey. "I'm real excited Coach Babers is taking it in and continuing with it," he said. "We have a great family connection with those guys, and they're just like part of the family."

Syracuse named Dan French interim athletic director.

Syracuse was forced to scramble after former AD Mark Coyle jumped over to take the gig at Minnesota earlier this week. French is the new sheriff in town. He has no prior experience as an athletic director. There is no word as of yet when the Orange might name a permanent director, but French has already indicated that he does not want the full-time job.

ESPN's Jeremy Crabtree notes that "keen observers have noticed the job [Syracuse HC Dino Babers has] done [in recruiting] since he’s taken over.

Don't expect Syracuse to be crashing the rankings gate when the dust of National Signing Day has settled, but the Orange have slowly/surely started to build up their 2016 stable. Wrote Crabtree, "Down the stretch, Babers hopes to land a few more commitments from quality targets like Stewart Rese, Adrian Killins and Jalen Martin." He's logged 19 three-star recruits to this point.

Bowling Green confirmed that HC Dino Babers will be the next Syracuse coach.

Babers broke the news to his team today. Once Chris Ash pulled out of Syracuse's coaching search, it seemed only a matter of time before Babers was announced. Turned out that he was waiting to coach in the MAC Championship Game before departing. Babers led the Falcons to a blowout win of Northern Illinois on Friday night. He will head east immediately. BGSU DC Brian Ward will coach the school in their bowl game. On a draft note, we would assume that Babers' departure slightly increases the odds that star WR Roger Lewis opts in.

Syracuse could announce Bowling Green's Dino Babers as the school's new head coach as early as Saturday, according to Joe Schad.

From Scott Shaffer to Dino Babers, Syracuse will certainly upgrade on offense. Babers only spent two seasons at Bowling Green after exiting Eastern Illinois at the same time as Jimmy Garoppolo and he brought his offensive success. The question is defense, and Babers would be wise to prioritize a strong defensive mind on his staff. Babers is one of the fastest rising names in college football.

The USA Today's Dan Wolken reports that Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash has pulled out of the Syracuse coaching search, making Bowling Green head coach Dino Babers the clear front-runner.

We are big, big fans of Babers, who created juggernaut offenses lickity-split at both Bowling Green and Eastern Illinois. Ash may have pulled out after it became clear that Babers was ticketed for the offer. Interestingly, Babers was reportedly UCF's leading candidate before pulling out of that search himself, leading the school to Scott Frost. Perhaps Babers got a call from Power 5 Syracuse right before he did so? Wolken believes Babers is the guy barring "a late entry or mystery candidate."

Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman has been told by two sources that the reports connecting Bowling Green HC Dino Babers to UCF are "not true."

Babers has created offensive juggernaut's at his last two stops, Bowling Green and Eastern Illinois, and UCF produced one of the worst offenses in the country this season. Actually, the entire team might be last in the FBS. Babers will likely move on to another program soon, but maybe not this offseason.

Eastern Illinois' Dino Babers has been hired as Bowling Green's next head coach.

Babers moves on at the same time as his quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The head coach has a long history on the offensive side of the ball and incorporated spread and pro style concepts, even allowing his quarterback to run the offense at the line of scrimmage this season. Babers only spent two seasons at Eastern Illinois, but was previously the special teams and wide receiver coach at Baylor.
