Iowa State OC Mark Mangino has been fired.
HC Paul Rhoads said that he and Mangino "couldn't get on the same page on a few important items" and that the decision followed a conversation on Monday. "In the end, Mark was not interested in [a different offensive direction]. I wish that wasn't the case, but I respect and understand his conviction." Several players voiced surprise on Twitter after the news broke, as Rhoads hadn't informed them. Passing game coordinator Todd Sturdy is now set to take over at OC. Oct 26 - 5:31 PM

Mark Mangino was named offensive coordinator at Iowa State.

Mangino went 50-48 over eight seasons as head coach of Kansas. He was named national coach of the year in 2007, when he led the Jayhawks to an Orange Bowl victory. Mangino spent this past season as the assistant head coach at Youngstown State. "I am beyond thrilled to welcome Coach Mangino to the Cyclone football family," Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads said. "He has an imaginative offensive mind, an ability to play to his players' strengths, a track record of winning and a tremendous familiarity with the Big 12 Conference. In terms of calling plays and executing a game plan, he is top shelf."
