Notre Dame redshirt senior DB Cody Riggs "could be a top-100 selection next spring," writes CBS Sports' Derek Stephens.
Riggs made 25 starts and appeared in 40 games for Florida before transferring to South Bend in February. The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder spent three seasons at corner for the Gators before moving to safety last year -- a foot injury in 2012 allowed him to take a medical redshirt and make his move to Indiana a possibility. "Riggs may not be physically imposing in size, but he's a tough defender with surprising physicality, good instincts and explosiveness," Stephens wrote. "As a corner, he demonstrates the fluidity and strength to jam, flip and run from press, but also exhibits the quickness and agility to play off, or move inside and cover slot receivers. Add his safety experience to the mix, and you have one very versatile defender with the flexibility that defensive coordinators covet at the next level." Jul 22 - 3:21 PM

Former Florida S Cody Riggs has transferred to Notre Dame.

Because he'll graduate this spring, Riggs will be eligible to play in 2014. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound senior-to-be finished fourth on the Gators with 51 tackles in 2013. He played corner his first three years on campus and probably hopes to return to that position with the Fighting Irish. "Cody Riggs is an outstanding player," said Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. "He played a ton of football at Florida having started at both safety and corner back. Cody definitely brings veteran leadership and versatility to our team and defense." Said Riggs: "I fully intend to make the most of this opportunity by not only giving my absolute best effort, but also leading by example both on and off the field." He's expected to replace the graduating Bennett Jackson in the starting lineup.

Florida redshirt junior S Cody Riggs will graduate this spring and then transfer.

Gators coach Will Muschamp announced the news on Wednesday. "Cody Riggs and his parents came to me and he's going to finish up in May and transfer to another school to finish his last year of eligibility," Muschamp said. "[He] wanted a fresh start. I appreciate his contributions to Florida." Riggs started 12 games last fall. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound senior-to-be finished fourth on the team with 51 tackles in 2013. He played corner his first three years on campus and may be itching to return to that position with his new school.
