The owner and operator of an ESPN affiliate in Fayetteville will not broadcast this weekend's East Carolina's game against UCF.
We are through the looking glass here, as Colonial Media and Entertainment has opted not to broadcast Saturday's game in order to protest the national anthem protest of ECU's student band last weekend. "The band members could have quietly protested in the early morning hours before the game," said CME's Jeff Andrulonis in an oddly hostile statement. "But that would’ve required them to wake up early." The Fayetteville affiliate will resume broadcasting Pirate games after this weekend's contest. Oct 4 - 6:28 PM

The Big 12 has informed ECU they are not a candidate in the conference's expansion conversation, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

ECU entered their hat immediately, but never seemed to be a viable candidate. None of the current options, outside of maybe Houston, are honest candidates, but the Big 12 seems to be sticking to their decision.

ECU AD Jeff Compher said he was "looking for Superman" when he hired Duke OC Scottie Montgomery to be the team's next head coach.

Said Compher, "As I look at our next head coach I don’t see a cape and I don’t see an ‘S’ on his chest, but I do see a man who meets and exceeds the qualities that we’re looking for in our next head coach" Montgomery takes over for Ruffin McNeill, who received his walking papers on December 4 despite a 42-34 record across six seasons with the Pirates. For his part, Montgomery--who's spent the last two seasons as Duke's offensive coordinator--said that his No. 1 priority is to unite the players already on the team.

East Carolina hired Duke OC Scottie Montgomery as head coach.

There might be a method to the Pirates' offseason madness, but we're missing it. East Carolina fired Ruffin McNeill on Dec. 4. McNeill rescued the program from mediocrity, going 42-34 with a bowl win and a few marquee upsets over six seasons. Now, ECU is apparently banking on the unproven Montgomery winning in a very difficult; the Pirates reside in recruiting area infested with bigger sharks. His resume includes having spent three years coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers' receivers. He's been the Blue Devils' offensive coordinator for the past two years.
