Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois is returning to Florida State.
A university spokesman confirmed that Francois is registered for next semester. The redshirt junior had some flashes of brilliance, but for the most part, struggled in his first year back after suffering an injury as a sophomore that kept him out almost the entire year in the 2017 opener. He'll be the favorite to win the starting job, but if Florida State has any chance of competing in the ACC, Francois is going to have to be considerably better. Jan 9 - 4:06 PM

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois said that he is considering declaring for the 2019 NFL Draft.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Francois would either transfer or declare for the draft, causing the quarterback to write to social media, "Fake news-Stop spreading rumors." We have a bit more information, now, as Francois later explained to the Orlando Sentinel that while he is kicking around a draft declaration, he would return to Florida State -- rather than transfer -- if advisory evaluations do not come back favorably. Said the redshirt junior, "Why would I not go back to FSU (if I don't declare for the draft)?" A draft declaration would be a major mistake in our estimation. Francois receives a UDFA grade from Draft Analyst at this juncture.

Updating a previous report, Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois shut down an Orlando Sentinel report claiming he is either declaring for the 2019 NFL Draft or transferring.

Francois quote tweeted the original report and said, "Fake news-Stop spreading rumors." That's certainly a strong response from the redshirt junior, so we need to take his word for it now. If he wanted, Francois would be eligible to play in 2019 (without sitting out) at another program since he would be a graduate transfer.

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois will not play at Florida State in 2019.

Francois is weighing two options and both get him out of the Florida State football program. He's awaiting feedback from the NFL, which will dictate if he declares for the draft or not. If the NFL gives him poor feedback, then the redshirt junior will transfer to another college program as a graduate transfer. Francois is hoping that he can just head to the NFL, but he owned a 15/12 TD/INT ratio this season, so he may have to return for his senior season in 2019... just not at Florida State.

Florida State HC Willie Taggart said Wednesday that redshirt junior QB is "weighing his options" regarding a possible transfer.

Francois, whose 2017 season came to an end in the opener due to a torn ACL, struggled in 2018 as the Seminoles' 41-year streak of reaching a bowl game came to an end. The redshirt junior completed 57.3% of his passes this season, throwing for 2,731 yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions behind a porous offensive line. Sophomore James Blackman would be Florida State's most experienced quarterback if Francois were to transfer.

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois completed 14-of-29 passes for 154 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in a 41-14 loss to Florida on Saturday.

The loss ends two of the most impressive streaks in college football: A streak of 41 straight winning seasons for the Seminoles, and their run of making a bowl game in 36 straight seasons is also over. Florida State had decently high expectations for the season under new coach Willie Taggart, but injuries, a porous offensive line, and inconsistent play from Francois put an end to those expectations, in a big way. Francois will likely battle for the starting quarterback job in 2019 -- assuming he doesn't transfer.

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois completed 19-of-39 passes for 322 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in a 22-21 victory over Boston College on Saturday.

The completion percentage was ugly, and the two turnovers are less than ideal. That being said, Francois made a few big plays, particularly a 74-yard touchdown pass to Tamorrion Terry with only 1:49 on the clock to give the Seminoles a 22-21 lead. Francois's offensive line is still a disaster, but there have been just enough moments that have reminded us of how good he was a few short years ago. He'll look to lead the Seminoles to another upset win over Florida next Saturday.

Florida State HC Willie Taggart declared redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

"He's not the issue with our football team," Taggart said. We tend to agree with Taggart. But there's also more going on here than meets the eye. True sophomore James Blackman has only appeared in four games this season and is eligible for a redshirt if he doesn't play in another game this season. Expect Francois and Blackman to engage in another quarterback derby next summer.

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois (head) completed 23-of-47 passes for 215 yards with an interception in a 42-13 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday.

No, Francois wasn't great. He missed on several throws and turned the football over, and he held onto the football longer than he should have. He was better than this, though. Florida State's offensive line is awful, and on the rare occasions that the junior signal-caller had time to throw the football, he made some NFL throws. Just not nearly often enough, and again, that offensive line is horrific. Florida State falls to 4-6, and will need to beat Boston College next Saturday to remain in bowl contention.

Multiple outlets are reporting that Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois (head) will start Saturday's game against Notre Dame.

Coming into the weekend, it was an open question whether Francois or James Blackman would be starting against the Fighting Irish. Both signal-callers split first-team reps during the practice week. Blackman started in place of an injured Francois versus NC State last Saturday, and played well in that spot.

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois (head) told reporters "I'm still the No. 1 guy" and then practiced with the starters on Tuesday.

The full quote: "I'm still the No. 1 guy. Coach Taggart continues to know that. James understands that but James [Blackman] is always ready." Very strange comment between the Taggart "continues to know that" bit to the allusion to Blackman as the contented backup who's just excited to get a shot whenever Francois isn't active. To be honest, it feels like a bit of posturing to us at first blush. Francois has gone through his share of struggles this year (13/7 TD/INT ratio) and then watched Blackman throw for 421 yards and four touchdowns against NC State over the weekend as Francois sat out with an injury. We don't have ears inside the building, but we'd be surprised if this situation is truly the open-and-shut case that Francois makes it out to be. Taggart himself said Monday that he hasn't decided who will start at No. 3 Notre Dame. To be fair, Francois did practice with the "1s" in Tuesday's practice. We'll have clarification soon enough.

Florida State HC Willie Taggart isn't prepared to announced a starting quarterback for Saturday's game against Notre Dame.

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois (head) warmed up prior to Saturday's game against NC State but was unable to give it a go. Instead, backup James Blackman threw for over 400 yards and four TD in a losing effort, potentially opening back up a quarterback controversy in Tallahassee. We wouldn't expect Taggart to announce the QB starter until just prior to kickoff against the Irish.

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois (knee) is taking part in warmups ahead of Saturday's game against NC State.

What's notable about Francois going through pregame is the fact that he's doing so without a brace on his knee. Whether or not the redshirt junior can play remains to be seen, and if he's unable to do so James Blackman would get the starting nod for the Seminoles.

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois (undisclosed) didn't throw on Wednesday.

Francois was listed on top of the depth chart on Tuesday, but we all know how depth charts go in this day and age of college football. Francois looked seriously shaken up after taking a hard hit in the loss by Clemson. It's looking like it's very possible that James Blackman will start against NC State on Saturday.

Florida State redshirt junior QB Deondre Francois (undisclosed) is listed atop the depth chart for Saturday's game against NC State.

Francois (6'1/215) was taken to the locker room for examination in the fourth quarter of Saturday's blowout loss to Clemson. FSU's shoddy offensive line has put the redshirt junior in peril time and time again this season, but to this juncture, he has not had to miss a game. James Blackman would start versus the Wolfpack if Francois is still hampered by the end of the practice week.
